Next Carlton Captain?

If it's Walsh then we might as well give up now.
Weitering is an absolute no.
Either Cowan and playing as a mid, or recruit from outside - but who would want to captain this mess?

Butters on a massive front ended contract would be the dream but sadly that's all it is.

Why would anyone want to come here let alone take over the captaincy?????

Who garners the players attention? Who demands teammates rise to the challenge? Right now, no one (potentials are there but young). To me Haynes and Newman have the right temperament but age is a factor.

Maybe just rotate captains each game next year.

Which role has more appeal?

Carlton captain or Captain Carlton...

the captain needs to have Footy IQ not be the best player. Pendles is an onfield coach. That is Newman for us.
The closest players that we have with F IQ would be Smith, Newman, Haynes, Carroll and maybe Acres / Hewitt.

Crippa has to reinvent himself as a goal kicking forward. We cannot afford to have him in at CB if we do not change and have runners for him to instinctively hit.

I'd go with Nic Newman as captain with George Hewett and Ben Ainsworth as vice captains.

The way things are going currently I’d be picking Sam Walsh as captain (but potentially dual captains with Weitering). If I was a new coach coming in I’d strip them all of leadership roles immediately however and rotate the captain role each week to see who bloody wants it. Who’s gonna show the right actions, who is going to show those qualities. We should not be gifting the captaincy to our most talented but rather a player that has the ability to lead these young men into the future. It’s such an important role on field.

You could also argue we don’t actually have anyone showing senior leadership currently in the squad. Could we give it to a George Hewett.
