He was a Magpie before he was a Crow. Played cricket for Port. May have even been a Maggies supporter.

Wow. He beat both Mead and a Jenny/Stephen combo for the job and Stephen found out he hadn't won it by text message from a player. Kenny better come through with the goods!

was'nt josh carr up for this job,if so,surely he would have a better idea of modern game plans and structures than K.Mc. and imo would have more respect from the players amiwrong??

what is this f..kn love for excrowbies ffs where's it all coming from.... ef. n shameful imo:thumbsdown::(
Might as well sack Edwards, Rehn and Keith Thomas.

The essence of my post relates to the absolute hatred towards KT's appointment being from the 'enemy' - whether that be the hybrids, Norwood etc, and that he was a SNAFL stooge - my how things have changed.
Essentially, if any resource can improve my club, then I don't give a rats where they are from. Are you old enough to remember Fos Williams and Bob McLean?

steady on fella you brought kt in to it,read my original post, somewhere in it,it say's excrowbies, which kt is not

Wow. He beat both Mead ........

Have heard that Mead's poor communication skills has hurt this time as well as in the past.

If this is true, then maybe we have to use him in a one on one role or working with 2 or 3 tall backs at either the Power or Magpies. I reckon he would be good in that type of role if he isn't good at communicating with a group.

He was always good at advising players how to get their set shots for goal right. ;)

Bloody disappointing to have McGregor. Am surprised Leys went down this path. Who knows, maybe 2-3 seasons J.Clayton will be ready to coach.

Why would you be disappointed to get McGregor? Are you privy to his interview performance and how it compared to other applicants?

This is a long term appointment. Keith Thomas put the Hinkley-Richardson structure in place to develop coaches from within and save us going through prolonged selection processes for coaches in the future.

You might want to learn to like Ken McGregor because his appointment suggests - especially at 31yo - that he could be heading for higher honours.

The fact is we have passed on a premiership coach (S.Williams) for an untried ex-crowbot. The fact that he is still going to be writing for the 'newspaper' makes the matter even worse.
If it is the case that the Magpies are grooming coaches for the Power, I would have much preferred someone who understood the culture at Port Adelaide and was involved in our previous successes. J.Carr,D.Mead and S.Williams have won premierships with Port and I would have preferred that culture to be passed on to the current group.

I believe Darren Mead is not the greatest communicator and was taking the club in the wrong direction, ie. not promoting enough youth.

Stephen Williams on the other hand is one of my most admired and someone I regard as a Role Model. Quite simply he has been out of the game for too long and a handful of VFL games for the struggling Bears in the 80's is now inconsequential.

I'd love to keep our coaching appointments in house but sadly, given recent performances that's not possible. Comments from Alan Richardson clearly indicate that will be the future position of the PAFC when stability and success is again our mantra.

Coaching the Port Adelaide Football Club should be a reward for effort not loyalty

Mead and Carr have been at the club in recent years in coaching and playing roles. How has that passing of culture worked for us? Why go back to Stephen Williams? Should we see what Jack is doing while we're at it?

As for McGregor being an "untried ex-crowbot"- what has been your impression of him in all the times you've spoken to him about football? Writing someone off just because they were drafted to the Crows smacks of a simple viewpoint.

As FF said, McGregor wouldn't be taking this role simply to continue his political reporting career in Adelaide and supplement his income by applying for the part-time Magpies role.

Be proud of the past, don't be a slave to it. And remember, Port Adelaide became the greatest football club not by ignoring outsiders and their ideas but embracing them.
