THE AE17 NEXT DUEL NO SHOWS CONUNDRUM

With the unusual (but not terribly unbelievable), we have a conundrum with the Week 5 & 6 results that have totally blindsided many that have also caused much angst / discussion upon the AE17 members.
I ask of ONE simple question on whether we continue as the 'stated rules' at the start of season OR make the NO shows exempt from the results meaning some will have 11 games assessed for some.

To make this POLL valid, I'll need at LEAST 60 VOTES (80%) lodged OR a LODGEMENT of 40 votes for either option. Only ONE vote per AE17 member. Please vote asap. Can change your vote before deadline.

This poll will close Wednesday 25th Oct 6pm AEDST

How many no shows are there, couldnt you just change the schedule to have people play others who were also playing against a no show?
Impossible. No shows can occur in any division. Also the AE schedule is more complex that anything MIT can handle

Now that I told people to vote no everyone will vote yes

You do have the effect on people ;)

I'm unaware of the stir or issue at hand, but my opinion is that if they have paid money to participate regardless of how they act afterwards the results should count. The rules dictate how those situations are handled and those principles should continue until the next season.

Surely in the long run those who actively tip should be at advantage, and if they are not perhaps they need to take a good hard looks at their own performance. haha. You will get odd weeks where you're better off not even trying to find the winner!

What happens if someone misses out on the "Playoffs" because a tie breaker went to someone who beat a no show for a better W/L record. That would suck

Im conflicted, because if you lose to a no show it should stand. but beating them, while not always a given is still a somewhat unfair advantage and could lead to someone making or missing the playoffs.

Too hard basket??

What happens if I need to win my last game to make ND playoffs but the person i'm playing spits the dummy and doesn't tip.
I'm now screwed because he doesn't GAF.

Leave it as is.

How are all the non Bigfooty ae'ers going to vote??

That's why I made it a mandate of 80%... it's only less than 15% who are not BF affiliated.

Point is....there are too many "what if" scenarios that affect each side of the debate. So many different scenarios, different grievances, caused by whether no shows are allowed to win or not win ND games, and even if no show games are voided...tho I think that's the best solution of the available. Solution (keyword) because other alternatives are just bitter pills to swallow for one side or the other side of the debate.

Even the idea that if you get beaten by a no show then it should count....because there'll cone a day when a no show gets a hrs type score and the person who lost himself had a hrs kind of score.

Solution -- voided result.

But whether a solution is applied this year or next year, whether things are kept as they are or not, SOMEONE is going to be salty. No win-win situation.

Woodson has to just make a firm executive decision (what was DEFAULT house rules established this year), is the fairest answer (not solution) for this year, and everyone who is affected by that just has to deal with it.

I don't even know why this Poll was started as nothing will change!

Woodson is making the cutthroat commish look like executive of the year :p

In all seriousness Woodson does a stack of work behind the scenes to set up this comp and i have seen it first hand what is involved and both of us falling asleep at my kitchen table after 2am in late August setting up match ups and divisions etc!

Not to mention JD and his terrific site coupled with countless others that put a heap of their own time doing run downs and separate comps amongst other stuff.

Prick of a situation we find ourselves in regarding the no shows and i do like the " Never to be back in " approach regarding blokes that have been no shows for weeks on end as they screw up the whole comp and even if we have to scale the participants down for next season to ensue this does not happen again being accepted into AE should be a privledge not an automatic right cause you have $40.

Yeah no doubt there :thumbsu:

Just woodson probably should put a firm foot down and say that's the rules in play this year, like they were previously, and due to this year, we'll look for a solution next year. And the whiners, on either side, just cop it on the chin, like we all have to do.

Next years solution is scale it down and only regualrs get in IMO and make it invite only and prestigious so to speak to be apart of the greatest NFL tipping comp on earth!

Who cares if prize money is lowered and i am sure many will fore go a slightly reduced prize packet for an outstanding comp not riddled with new no shows and people not even on this board.

Keep it simple/small and well balanced IMO with blokes that are tried and true trusted to Tip.

Everyone may have 1 week etc where a moment comes up and genuinely forgot or what not but weeks on end and AWOL tippers need to be culled in future.

Boutique, yes. But still, rules have to be made for such possibilities. Just in case. And the rule does need to be a kind of solution.

Agree but i doubt it is rarely talked about with a Invite only comp and newbies or AE rookies need to be screened ( Post count wise on here etc / regular participation ) if nobody knows them outside of BF regarding other social media outlets they can be contacted on.

I don't necessarily like the no rookies idea tho. Dirty Bird is a regular and he quit. Some rookies turn out to be great and committed AE'ers. We all started as rookies at some point.

Don't think woodson would like to exclude.

Again, THE specific issue here is not anything else but looking for a near perfect solution to the possibility of a no show
