I think you are the one red-lining on the moron-o-meter. For a starter, no-one finds "The Hoff" funny. I especially despise getting any Hoff related emails and do not think he is funny one bit. Get a life.

Bulletproof has a valid point, and the fact that so many of you Geelong people are hanging on to the memory of a player who finished up 10 years ago is beyond belief. Don't get my wrong, Ablett snr is the best player I have ever seen, but if the current crop need him to "hang around" for presence and a morale boost then it just goes to show what a fragile club Geelong remains.

Geelong owes Gary Ablett snr nothing. It has taken in two of his sons and is no doubt making every effort to ensure that they both don't go off the rails like their father.

I hear what you are saying, but you are wrong!

As my username is the hoff, surely it means i created everyone of the hoff emails that get circulated, right? Surely, even a Fremantle supporter is smart enough to realise that a user name is exactly that, a user name and is often a split second decision prior to signing up to a internet based forum, email, etc.

It is also blindly evident, that being a Fremantle supporter has clouded your judgement as you have no understand of what a "History of a football club" is. Geelong owe Gary Ablett Senior alot. He provided countless memorable moments, generated thousands and thousands of dollars for the club and produced match winner efforts on a regular basis.

If Gary wants to help out at the football club (which has previously been encouraged by many people at the club) then who are you (of all people, a mindless Freo supporter) to challenge that.

Worry about your own club, celebrate you 2 finals series experiences and purchase some brain cells.

Beat me to it. A Freo supporter wouldn't have the understanding of "club legend" either. And very few clubs would be lucky enough to have a legend like Ablett.

If Garry is training with the VFL side he has nothing to do with his sons, as they do not train together or at the same time. So how would that influence his kids development??? I reckon its good for all parties, Garry gets fit and healthy, and the VFL players get to train with the best player of all time!!

Finally some logic, people read to much into too little.

This is a win-win situation for all concerned. :thumbsu:

Sorry, 'Oggy's Cousin' but who asked you?

Please explain to me why he should not be able to have a run with the VFL team? Is he going to spread 'bad vibes' to our secondary list? Does he have a strange airborne disease?

I'm sure if Watson asked to train with Bendigo, they wouldn't tell him he couldn't.

It has nothing to do with his sons, as they train with the senior squad, not the VFL. Getting it now?

I'm sure they would not let him train with Bendigo, you are running an AFL football club that turns over $20m+ p.a. I don't for the life of me understand why all you Geelong supporters feel this is ok. It makes me realise why you haven't won a premiership for 43 years (not including pre-season cups of course). Happy with mediocrity, close enough is good enough etc etc.

If Gary wants to help the club, and the club wants to help him get his life in order, he should be doing one on one sessions with the likes of Mackie and Steve Johnson and those types, where to run in the fwd line, how to lead etc. Give Gary an office with a tv and video machine and get him giving the young kids lessons.

The same thing happened at Hawthorn where Dunstall and Dermhead were out on the track. You've finished, you've had your time in the sun, let it go. That was the first thing Clarkson did when he took over at Hawthorn.

Get over the fact that he's your greatest ever player, its about NOW. Absolutely respect him for what he has done, but look forward to winning your next premiership, and celebrate that.

I'm sure if you read over these comments again you will realise how much sense I make.

Oggy out.

Like your username, my team is arbitrary in nature

Mate dont make comments to us about Gary Ablett Snr. because in the last ten years you blokes have played, you haven't even had anyone to make the couple of hairs on Gods head stand up. And pleeeaaassseee dont mention Pavlich because it's not realistic.

If Gary wants to help the club,

Oggy out.

Oggy's cousin, ( And im sure your cousin is a lot smarter than you )

I read your comment and have a little giggle to myself, You talk about Tim Watson fron the bombers, if you remember he did return to the trg track, in a comeback, or something the was supposed resemble a comeback. And sencondly to compare Watson Vs Ablett is an insult to Ablett, its like comparing Charlie Gardiner to Matty Pavlich.

What do you care if Gary wants to help the club? It shouldnt even raise those pointer ears on that big round head of yours.

Oggy out = i hope this means that you are going to stay out of out sight cause we dont want you.

I dont understand why the club is allowing Gary to spend so much time at the club. He finished ten years ago, his boys are both in his 20s they need to move on and let the lads do their own thing.

I think its all very sad.

Gary has been a hero of mine and I really hope he is getting the help he needs but GFC is not the right avenue for that help - for him or the club or the two sons.

Tell me something, do you think there's a chance - however small - that the young guys in the seconds might actually learn a thing or two from him? You know, like football skills? If I was an 18 year old trying to improve having goalkicking practise with the best player of all time may not be the very worst thing to happen to me.

Besides, it's the seconds, not the senior side. The word exaggeration comes to mind.

Boggy
Bendigo isn't an AFL club. It's a VFL club, just like the team that Snr trained with.

I'm amazed Bulletproof didn't post 5 minutes after you.You two do seem to be so far up each others arse.

Maybe just maybe he is trying to get fit and doing what he loves???

I don't understand why people think we are obsessed with the man?, I believe he was one of the best players I have seen of that era (Wayne Carey was up there with him) but I'm not obsessed. Yes we recruited his sons, why the hell wouldn't we?, Gary junior is a champion and that's undebateable and Nathan is still too young to realise his full potential (but it's there). If any other team could pick them up under father-son then they would do the same.

North fans still speak of Carey despite what he did to the club and West Coasters will talk about Judd when he's left the game but it's hardly an obsession. The GFC is professional enough to not even contemplate a return for a 45 year old and the suggestion is as ridiculous as it sounds.

Last time i heard the 2 boys were quite fond of the old man and I don't think him training a few times with a seconds side that's not in the same group as them will make a scrap of difference.

I agree with someday-somehow, GFC certainly won't be selecting him for an AFL match, and I'm pretty sure no matter how much Gary would love to be out there again, it's not going to happen. We all have this mental image of the great man doing what he did best, let's just leave it at that. I don't know anything about an AFL legends match, but no doubt this is what it's for. As for him being around the club again, I personally think it's great, who wouldn't. It's great for team morale and who not a better person to give us some motivation, absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The boys are both playing there and they need to grow up on their own within the club.

r u serious???
gary ablett snr, geelongs best ever player, and ur saying he is spending too much time at the club???
why watse ur energy! to meet the great man would be an honour, but to train and get tips from him.......
well i'd love it!!

Garbage!

&

Gary should spent as much time at the club as he likes if it provides an avenue for his recovery. He not only gives his media shy boys support but he gives all the young guys around the club that grew up worshipping him and real buzz! No halm in that.

P.S. There is no chance he'll play again at such a high level. He'd stuggle in the local league.
I was talking about it purely from a playing perspective, not training. I hadn't read the whole story and got told that he just wanted to play VFL.

It's the VFL team, how are you not getting that?

I am getting it. The VFL is not part of your club???? Read what I am saying you pack of morons.

The VFL side is geelong's side. Your senior list and rookie list players all train and play in the VFL side if not picked in the AFL team.

If you want to help him, get him involved with the senior team. I can't believe I'm wasting my time with you invalids. It just galls me as to how stupid and narrow minded you all are....I mean, think outside the box a bit.

I remember he made a comeback in 1993 and won a Premiership???

I was comparing them from the point of view of past players with sons at their clubs...obviously this concept is a touch beyond the primary school concepts you are used to dealing with.

Well thoughtout comeback dopey..... And you wonder why you are everyones target on the Geelong forum.

You are a goose of the highest order.

********Hoff

If you read my post I am actually supporting Geelong's endeavours for success. Ablett training with the VFL or whoever he is training with DOES NOT help the club move forward. If they want to help him, get him involved in something meaty, some match day involvement or behind the scenes specialist training. He is one of the greatest ever, the Cats should be trying to tap into that

Unfortunately, my cousin passed away after being pelted across the head with coconuts thrown by members of the North Melbourne board

Never forgive them for that...that Shinboner spirit is absolute bollocks

They train together once a week. The rest of the time they train on their own.Just get over it dips**t.

You and bulletproof don't have a brain between you.

Now bugger off back to the Essendon or Freo board, whichever team you're supporting under this username.
