So that’s his only brother? I was thinking Marra had a little brother that wasn’t too far off but could be mistaken.

Hopefully we keep him under wraps, I desperately want first dibs at all future Ugle-Hagens [emoji23] what a talent

Honestly the AFL needs to make a call either way, this half assed fence sitting approach is a joke.

Either option A) make all academies (NGA & Northern states) league run with ALL players going into the open pool, or option B) just embrace it and let all clubs have full access to their academy players BUT fix the system so ALL clubs have to pay a fair price to match a bid, mainly fix the point system (add value to top picks, remove lots of value from lower picks)
The other option is to reduce the point value of subsequent picks. The more picks you use, the more the points drop off. Eg:

1st pick: 100%
2nd pick: 80%
3rd pick: 50%
4th pick: 15%

Any more is nothing. This forces teams to use higher picks.

I haven’t seen this idea before but like it a lot.

Maybe a bit of VDM about him - wants to run and overlap but a bit sloppy / untidy

Provides a good outlet for his teammates though, knows how to get to useful spots

This has been my criticism of him and personally don't think he's worth a first rounder for this reason. Happy to take him in the 2nd round if he's still around as his run, defensive work and aerial game are all very good.

Do you think it's worth trading back into the 2nd round with a future pick at say 25?

An update on a Cal post

Afl likely going ahead with a new NGA nominating system which allows other clubs to nominate a player if their club don't nominate them

So for example
If Dogs don't nominate Alex Tsia, other another club can place him on their draft list and if not drafted would go straight to their cat b roster spot

In the past, clubs had to either draft the player in the late or rookie pick or hope to sign them later on

The North Sanders situation is making them reconsider the bidding process with NGA. A solid chance of a re structure this as many clubs have complained about not getting access to players they have invested 4-5 years in

Likely NGA falls.under the Northern Academy ruling though first round will be tweak

As in going back in line with the Northern Academy rules? So no restrictions?

Imagine the AFL did this after a few clubs missed out on top prospects, like Melbourne & St Kilda. Don’t get me wrong that’d be hilarious but man this organisation is poorly run.

I figured they’d only do that when a big club missed out on an NGA kid and caused a huge fuss.

Likely a top 15 protection

They really should have pivoted to making it so that only first round picks are protected and you can't match a bid, round 2 there's no point discount. The entire top 40 not allowing matching of NGA bids just meant that there's no incentive on developing a player.

Awesome - love your work.
Just on them, do you see them being draftable?

Yep, I wouldn't be shocked if they are top 30 talent

At their size, speed and ability to win the folty at age 16

They got a huge future

Is the Chatfield in our VFL team eligible for a Cat B listing? He's an ex academy player right?
Sadly not, NGA only allows for two years after their draft year to stay eligible

NGA BIDDING CHANGES DISCUSSED

THE POTENTIAL to align the Next Generation Academy bidding system with the northern Academy rules is among the suggestions put forward by clubs as the AFL reviews its NGA system.

The League has had ongoing reviews of the NGA system – its rules, the access to talent for clubs, the eligibility process – across the year, with club views strong on questioning the pick 40 threshold on when they are able to match bids on NGA products.

Clubs have felt that benchmark for priority access to Indigenous and multicultural prospects in the draft was too late to warrant huge investment in the programs without the benefit of the best players within their zones.

Northern Academy clubs, like those with father-sons, have access to matching bids at any stage of the draft, with limitations only on how many per season clubs inside the top eight and top four can take inside the top 20 picks.

But club feedback on NGA provisions will be put forward on the Academy bidding systems aligning, while other clubs have suggested that clubs should need to retain a selection within a certain range of where the bid could come on a player so that they cannot trade out of a pick and match with later picks and points.

While the review is undergoing this year, any possible changes wouldn't be brought in until the 2024 draft. – Callum Twomey
