List Mgmt. Next Generation Academy List

So long as Marra is on our list I’m not going to complain too much about the NGA rules, but yeah it is frustrating that we missed out on Lual the year before the changes and will be hard to watch if he comes on as a good player
Plus we wouldn’t have Sanders as he’d be at North. Cam McKenzie would have been at Saints. Mac Andrews with the Dees and maybe some others. Sure we missed Lual but we have got a pretty good deal out of the NGA rules overall.

Wouldn't be shocked if dogs traded for Lual in a couple of years
Similar to how we kept tabs on Coffield

The Age reporting that Kobe Williams is still heavily involved in our NGA Program

With the current ruling, he will likely end up at Hawks unless he goes into the open draft next year and we pick him up.

I predict him being a 30-45 picks atm

Does Kobe have any kind of involvement with Hawthorn

I haven't seen anything online for a long time

I've asked the Hawks NGA thread for some info

Hawks board is saying they don't have a Father-Son Program

So that's why hes been with us the last 4 years

Probably still go to Hawthorn you'd assume
Agreed
But think it will be a tough decision for him

The latest notes i got last year was he loved being part of the Dogs program since it's helped so much

Dogs wouldn't have him around for 3+ years if they didn't think they had a chance imo

We should just flat out draft him but then again Hawthorn can match

Don't think AFL is ready for American day player trading
But i would be all for it

imagine clubs being up to trade up for their Father-Son/NGA prospects

Would open up so much for draft coverages and trade period

Cal on Gettable:

Clubs are considering a staggering approach to the bidding system for NGA

If a player has been in their NGA pool since 12, they have access from Pick 1 onwards
Clubs signing up kids at later ages would have different bid restrictions

Basically rewarding clubs for long term investment in the NGA department and hindering a quick pick up of a kid in their draft year

A great outcome if it were to happen, at the moment there is no incentive for clubs to invest the time and money into acadamies that they currently do.

100%
Last year AFL considered this approach for Father-Sons as well to force clubs to get player in their Academy programs

This would have the reverse effect to the current opportunistic approach of enrolling a kid who is starting to blossom at the age of 17.

Instead, clubs would be seeking to cast their net as wide as possible for 12 yos (and any 13-14 yos who come to light a bit later) and then keep them in their NGA system in the hope they might flourish in their mid-late teens like Lual or JUH or Buku.

It makes so much sense that you just know the AFL won't do it.

Like you I have little faith the AFL will fix the situation (an issue they created themselves) and even if they do get things going in the right direction they will likely change it again in two years.
Some kid after 6 years development becomes number 1 pick

hmmm feels familiar

Just on this, what’s the go with Geelong supporters, whinging and moaning about Marra, did they have him in their academy or something at one stage?
