When the NGA is capable of producing a No1 draft pick who was schooled in the elite APS system. As well as multiple top 10 picks then the entire system seems a bit of an opaque farce. And this seems to be the entire point of it.

One could argue that the F/S is much the same, but at least that has a direct line of reasoning, transparency and cost associated with it.

Geelong make out like bandits with their zone doubling while ours gets halved. It's almost like they have a few senior figures at AFL house pulling some strings...
Though they do their best to hide it, it's a feature, not a bug of a system that is designed to entrench some at the expense of others. Its the way the league has always operated.

It's why 2016 is so special. The bug beat the system for once.

So no new metro zones and we lose most of our regional zone to Geelong.

How good
The only saving grace is it won't come into affect till 2028

Which means we don't lose access to a lot of African and indigenous talent

This is a huge backflip on what they had drawn up only a few months ago. Like an enormous change. I have friends involved and what was going to be mostly status quo for us seems to have been torn up hugely and handed to Geelong. What an embarrassment as it goes completely against the philosophy that we are there to develop the western corridor in the AFLs strategic plan. We have poured so much of our club money into that regional area only for it to be ripped away.

Unsure why they have not just drawn a horizontal line directly west and split that regional portion of the zone into a north and south between us and the cats. Would have been more equitable.

Cats basically control AFL House with how much alumni they have there.

What’s baffling to me is I thought this entire exercise was being done to address the Tasmanian zones (ie give North a piece considering they lose Tassie, which made sense).

The AFL couldn’t resist the pull of arbitrarily giving a leg up to Geelong. It’s actually embarrassing how blatant the favouritism is. At every opportunity, they seem to look for ways to help Geelong

What a load of shite we’ve been served.

When is someone going to shine a very bright light on the heavy favouritism going Geelong’s way every time there’s a fixture release, a change of policy or a significant strategic decision coming out of AFL House?

It’s even more blatant when you take in Dale4captain ’s post above. Looks like somebody on high said to his minions “thanks for all your hard work in figuring out a fair redistribution for all clubs but you can forget all that. We’re gonna do it this way”

So the way I'm understanding the proposed NGA / FS rules moving into next year is we still get access to the players we want but now we:
1. Have to pay a fair price
2. Have to have the same list spots as picks open
3. No discounts anymore

So even if a Father/Son goes first round, we'll still have access but we'll need an incredibly high pick to nab them?

Can sort of understand Geelong getting the South West Coast, but why almost the entirety of the Wimmera, and some of the Mallee region too? The Wimmera has zero connections with the Geelong region. Was hoping we'd hold onto that region up to Horsham at least.
