AFL Changing the NGA Program in 2021 which will see

-AFL Taking over the programs which reduce funding towards these programs
-NGA Players that are bid on in the first and second round will no longer have bid protection
-Once the protected period is over, Clubs can use later picks as normal
- AFL is concern that AFL Clubs are signing young talent up and not providing a correct pathway to AFL. By believing their natural talent will get them signed
-Players at age 15 that are signed to NGA will remain signed

Can confirm that Bulldogs are not one of these clubs with all the pathway programs they invest in NGA program.

I 100% agree. Half and half is rubbish either all in or all out imo

The original decision was a sop to the Melbourne clubs that see Academies simply as a rort SO have rorted it.
There should be NO exclusivity in heartland States, Vic, SA or WA.

That success has ZIP to do with the AFL, plenty to do with the WAFL, & kids going into the draft.

The developing States dont have entrenched junior comps that the heartland States do - the Academies are real, if junior development is left to the AFL it will be a disaster.

Doesn't sound like it.

In my opinion, they're focussing on the wrong issue. If you want to balance the ledger, then remove the discount. Or better yet, apply a premium for matching, not a discount.

That is an excellent idea. Could even have a premium on matching in the first round and a discount on matching second round onwards. That'd give incentive to other teams to go earlier with bids.

Yeah I have no problem with teams getting their academy kids, but cases like Blakey, Quaynor, Mills, Heeney, Green, Henry, and soon JUH, Campbell and McInnes, are blatantly unfair for the other clubs. Discounts are ridiculous

Especially for those first rounders who arguably (or not in some cases) would have been in an arm system regardless. I also think those already tied to clubs through f/s should be ineligible for academies.
I am of the opinion though that it is unfair to all clubs and the players currently in the NGA system to have the changes come into effect in the next couple of years. It really needs to be announced now for those who aren't yet. Allocated there for not including 15+ year olds, alot of planning has gone into ngas through clubland and although the system is very flawed you can't backup with such little notice

What are the criteria for getting an invitation? Do two clubs have to nominate you? That might explain it.

Raak not being invited isnt much of an issue for me

Hes a lock down athletic defender that doesn't light the world on fire compared to a lot of other players

Dogs have already done all their testing last year

There are some other players who some rate highly but haven't been invited to the combine. Jackson Cardillo isn't on the list, nor is Isiah Winder.
