I suppose the only concern may be if there are still concerns over his fitness. Basically spent the best part of 6 years struggling to remain uninjured until last Summer. Hopefully gets through the first half of the shield season unscathed and they can go from there.

Johnson definitely looks a talent and he's got a very easy action, but yes it's always wise to temper expectations on guys who have only managed 20-odd interstate games by his age.

No doubt there is a lot to like with him.

How true. Be a relief, at least for the immediate future, not to have our shield side decimated by national reps, specially our attack. Additionally looking ahead, what we want is for the Blues not to dominate the national junior white ball champs every year. The WA boys can gladly take over that mantle

Inglis, Richardson, Green, Hardie, Wyllie, Morris, plus smokies, Jayden Goodwin, Cooper Connolly. Looking into my crystal ball are WA rookies Mahli Beardman who has played PC Firsts since '21 and picked in the Junior Ashes plus Corey Walsey now playing Firsts at 17 has made the English leg of the Junior Ashes squad.

Was playing Seconds before that so has remained fit for more than the one summer. He is ready, CA had him on stand by for the last two Ashes matches, evidently.

If he's better than Starc (333 wickets at 27) or Johnson (313 at 28), not to mention both being handy with the bat, he'll be some player.

The amount of disrespect that Starc and Johnson get is crazy. Yes, they aren't/weren't McGrath, but no one else is either.

Inconsistency has followed Starc over his entire career. Debuted way back in 2011 so has played only 80 matches over 12 years. Compare that with Josh Hazlewood, debuted 2014, 63 across nine years. Until the past several years Starc averaged around @30 and was in and out of the Aussie attack. Mitch Johnson was just as inconsistent. Had a golden patch at the end of his career but hot/cold for the rest. Recall he was mediocre in England and horrible in the Subcontinent.

Most fast bowlers, especially express left handers for some reason, are inconsistent, Starc catches a lot more flack than Hazelwood. Kind of weird given their stats.

Yes Starc goes for a bit more per over, but he also has a better strike rate. The rest is pretty even.

i think it was the first real wave of WA players to come into the side.

not too many from WA have cracked 50 tests and there's been 2 champion imports in gilchrist and mitch johnson.

He played a handful of 2nds matches for SA over an extremely extended period due to chronic injury issues where he was also barely playing grade cricket in SA, whoever told you he was on standby for the Ashes is absolutely full of it. Spenno was basically cripple until his stint with Redlands in the Qld Premier Cricket T20 comp last season. You either have a terrible source or information or you are making things up. Source - My nephew plays for Redlands

RPO - 3.39, Wickets per test -3.81. Those stats can only be so low due to the cheap tail end wickets he has taken. Can not find verification but betting at least a third of his 313 wickets were #7 and below. Can not find verification.

Hazlewood - 63 -238. Has had virtually the past two years removed from his career, say 18/20 Tests @3.77, so has been denied app. 70/80 further wickets.

I know of the two who I'd prefer in my attack.

Starc has been a very good Test bowler as has Hazlewood. Starc only works though because he's had Hazlewood/Harris/Cummins also in the team who are unbelievably consistent and good at containment meaning Starc can attack more (at the expense of control). Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill and Mitchell Johnson all similarly benefitted. It's why the proverbial 'well-balanced attack' is so important in Test cricket.

In the Seconds games I saw from Johnson it did not look to me that he was nursing any injury. Went at full pace and was successful too, recall a five for. Was unaware of his Qld stint. Almost all of my info comes from either Cricinfo or Cricket Australia online, I DONT MAKE UP anything I post.

Apology accepted. I was well aware of the time he missed due to that chronic ankle injury. Are we both on the same page in thinking Spencer Johnson will have a successful Test career. Naturally it will not be as long as that of Starc or Hazlewood, but I think he will have more impact than that pair and will be more consistent than Starc. Only time will tell if that will be the case..

Spot on. Reckon is this, keeping his body together plus the fact he offers versatility as a left armer are the reasons for his longevity. There is his knack of producing the unplayable wicket ball at the correct time too.

Marnus and Cummins will still be around I reckon. I like a good WA representation too but not sure about Connolly and too soon on Wasley, tho he looks a good prospect. Hunt and Ward are my openers with Marnus or Pucovski first drop. I'd have Hardie at #6, Johnson for Perry and throwing in Jason Sangha who I think will come good over the next couple of years. My smokie for the future is Ethan Jamieson who starred in the first leg of the ongoing Junior Ashes series.

Aussie U19s took out the Junior Ashes with a thumping win in the first Test and a draw in the second. This follows the first leg here in Feb which finished in a game apiece. So the Aussies won the overall Test series 2-1, they also won the white ballers 6-2. Well done boys as anytime we can hammer the Poms in both formats is cause to celebrate.

My personal views on the next gens that have won the Junior Ashes in England..

Harry Dixon: 18, was the series most prolific scorer. Has masses of natural talent but needs to improve technically for elite red ball cricket.

Sam Konstas: 17, has enormous promise. Looks to be a devoted scholar of the game. A future Blue.

Harjas Singh: 18, another future Blue, batting all rounder.

Hugh Weibgen: 18, perhaps a future Bulls skipper, solid bat with a good technique.

Ryan Hicks: 18, a quality keeper who has the rare ability to score centuries. A future Blue.

Lachlan Aitken: 18, Qld keep producing class keepers, a future Bulls keeper/batsman.

Corey Wasley: 18, currently lacks patience and a solid technique.

Cameron Frendo: 18, has the ability to be a rare first class genuine slow bowling all rounder.

Raf MacMillan: 18, skillful off spinner who can handle a bat too. Future Blue.

Harikat Bajwa: 18, a tall Vic off spinner who gets good bounce and turn.

Callum Vidler: 18, appears the best pace bowling prospect among our next gen of quicks along with the boy below.

Mahli Beardman: 17, exciting is the word that comes to mind, mixes express pace with accuracy once he settles in. Hails from the mining town of Pilbara. A future Warrior.

Josh Vernon: 18, His fellow Pilbara native looks a promising seamer which Australian cricket needs.

Coby Reynolds: 18, once he learns control will be a good'n for the Bulls, can hold the willow too.

Luke Callanan: 18, another express man who lacks control at this stage of his development.

Tom Menzies: 17, a Northern Territory native and another budding seamer. Will be snapped up by another state if he hasnt already been.
