Shield final suggests something needs to be done. We can't keep having sub 200 innings being the norm.
It was late March lots of rain around in the lead up which affected the prep and the pitch did a bit day one and two. But it was a 5 day game and aside from McAndrew getting one to keep a fraction low the pitch didn’t seem to get anyone out. The ball was still moving off the pitch and it has definitely changed but the core issue is still the way we are developing or rather not developing batsman who are up to the right of long form cricket.

Cricket Victoria looking into signing Tasmanian journeyman Mac Wright whilst Tasmania looking to potentially sign Victorian youngster Jai Lemire is what grinds my gears
You're literally the only person who rates Lemire with the bat. He averages 24.4 at Second XI level with 3 fifties and no tons in 26 innings'. He probably ends up as the 4th keeper in line in Victoria soon as Faber likely goes past him next year.

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve always enjoyed Mac Wright. A very classy bat who has a lot of talent. Hasn’t ever put it together tho.

Teague Wylie not offered a contract in WA.

Was the next big thing a couple of years ago. The burden of potential.

Still only 21.
He’d be worth a phone call if he was interested in a fresh start.

Heaps of talent, just hasn’t put it together yet. Our top order is still our biggest issue, especially without Carey and the occasional Head cameo.

Simon Budge, Albert Esterhuysen, Jordan Quiggin are another yr closer to playing first class cricket after being named in the WA rookie contract list for their second yr..

Grinds mine too when Zac Curtain, 20, is a good keeper/bat prospect down there and my heir apparent to Doran.

I will repeat ad nauseum - talent is the most overrated thing in this game at the minute

Lemire sucks dude. I wouldn't be worried

I remember in the West Indies when NBA started being popular . The production line of big fast bowlers ended overnight.
Then came "track and field" and also soccer. The athletes stopped taking up cricket because other sports pay big money and are way more accessible .
Only the leftovers play cricket .

Australia faces the same problem. Athletes no longer taking cricket up .
Only the top players earn big money in cricket. You can see players wanting to play in the A-league soccer and if you are a decent player you have a decent chance of earning good money in Europe.

Really? Lack of athletes is our problem? No big athletic.fast bowlers coming through?

It's never been easier to make a living in cricket. I think there's absolutely no validity to this opinion.

I heard Tassie raiding NSW for young guys and might hand a few of those U/19 guys rookie contracts...

It's the Liam Scott model

Smaller states offer kids finishing school a contract

In their home state they'd just be in the U19s squad hoping to maybe get a rookie deal the following season.

Hard to say no as an 18 year old.
