One of them has quite a few test centuries.

The other has two FC centuries.

True, but Labs has essentially done nothing but live off the fumes of his past exploits for several years now.

I find it conflicting that one must display definitive form to be considered, but another is being carried year by year despite a complete absence of form.

Then they do something like picking CC, so who knows what the selectors are thinking, or if they're thinking at all.

Recent selections have had a slight whiff of the Mennie and Ferguson about them. What’s alarming was Connolly was picked partly for his bowling.

An educated guess says Connolly thrived in the team environment of the Dubai camp SL tour, the same logic says Konstas might have battled and thus the selectors got seduced by nets as opposed to logic

CC isn't a bowler in my very humble opinion, and the fact he bowled a paltry 5 overs - behind Head & Webster - suggests the hierarchy didn't have a lot of faith in him either.

He looked all at sea, a la Labuschagne, with the bat too.

Not a knock on CC......I just don't think the selectors did the right thing by him. It wasn't his time imo.

I don't think they got the call on Konstas right either.

They did it to shove mcsweeney down the pecking order I reckon.

Ashes '27 Next Gens.

Konstas
Dixon
Ward
Green
Hardie
Carey/Inglis
Bartlett
Cummins
Beardman
Anderson
Lyon

reserves: McSweeney, Goodwin/ Hearne, Vidler, T Sangha/Murphy.
I know its just a speculaytive 11 but Clayton is a lot better than Goodwin and Hearne at this stage, and no way in hell should Ward be at 3 over McSweeney

I think long term Green will be our 3. I see McSweeney more at 4 or 5.

The standard of our domestic comps has just deteriated more and more over the years, was watching Vic v tas one dayer the other day and thought to myself how bad that Vic team was,if you lined up that team with a good Vic one day team from 2005 to 2008 roughly you’d be lucky to have 3 players contend for a spot in a combined team

It’s reflective of the standard at the levels below - Grade and Community Cricket have dropped away enormously

Will Sutherland is the vic captain and is a genuine spud.

He's an average captain I'll pay that but spud? Has a bowling average of 23 in FC cricket and 30 in List A. Might not play test cricket but he's a very good domestic bowler.

are you trying to justify a 30 average in what is now prem grade cricket stand ODD cricket? He’s a pedestrian at best cricketer that should in no way be our state captain.

30 in List A cricket is fine. Peter Siddle, a bloke who's taken over 200 test wickets averages more with the ball than Sutherland in List A cricket.

As I said, average captain at best but he ain't a spud. 23 as a FC bowling average is very good. You can keep on doubling down if you want, though.

Everything is relative to the era that you played in - I don’t for a minute think that you’re rating Sutherland above Siddle in any format, which probably tells you something

No, but this era of List A is more friendly than previous. Just providing context for it

Ward is in career best form, so put him at #3 on that basis. This year he is 4 - 460 @65.7. Add his pair of tons against England Lions too. Fairly irresistible numbers. Other than last year he has been solid previous three, averaging around @40. He is now batting #3 for Tassie and has done at club level for two years, so will fit seamlessly into that spot if needed in '27. Meantime, I see Ussies spot between Ward, Hunt and Konstas, tho in two years plenty may have changed. Imho Konstas and Dixon have the potential to be our most exciting opening combo since sliced bread.

Sween will play more Test cricket, but I see his best fit being in the middle order. Clayton career 30 games- @36 is moderate. He too is having his best year as is Goodwin but I think we are seeing the emergence of Hearne who I rate potentially the best of the three. Dumb arsed Blues selectors needed to hang onto him.
