So South Australia win the under 19 championships after a really underwhelming carnival from a lot of states.

Nitesh Samuel (NSW) leads al run getters with 364 at 91.5

Jacques Van Niekerk (7.62) and Charlie LAchmund (12.62) lead all wicket takers with 13.

NSW keeper Alex Lee -Young the standout 'fielder' with 14 catches and a stumping, next best was 9

From a Victorian point of view, Archie Flynn (4th, 271 runs at 54) probably makes it into the Aus trials

Does O'Neil have another gear to go to?

Ryan Harris was a fringe medium fast bowler for quite a few years (125-130km/hr) before getting much fitter, stronger and tweaking his action. Added 10+km/hr and played test cricket

Anyone know much about this guy? Doesn't yet have a Cricinfo page as far as I can tell, so hasn't played at national or professional level yet. Pretty great figures though and its a legit award to win. Its hard to find all the previous winners. Last few winners are Simon Budge, Aiden O'connor, Konstas. And going back a bit (according to an article I found) includes Cam Green, Head, Ussie, Waugh, Ian Healy and Gilly.

I suppose we will get a better understanding of where all these guys are at once the u19 WC squad gets announced, which should be somewhat soon now champs are over.

Sound mail suggests CA funding cutbacks mean the end of Vic & NSW Country going forward
Probably not the worst thing

Has helped the likes of SA be competitive at these carnivals but dilutes the overall standard

Hayden Barbulovic, left handed opener from SA our most impressive batter imho

And left arm quick Jarrah Reidy (from Port Lincoln originally) goes alright. Reminds me a bit of Campbell Thompson, another left armer who's coming through and looking ok.

Taite Brook, an U17 batter who got picked for this, also looks a decent player

My mail man says there is a young quick in your crew who was significantly faster than anyone else VC had faced who bowled in the middle overs

Reidy almost certain to be fast tracked then

Think Barbulovic is an under 17 as well but could be wrong. Some very nice shots in the highlights package of the final.

Reidy looks good, Trent Boult like action.

Finished as an awesome bowler. He walks into any post-2007 Australian team. Told he only had a finite number of balls left in him by a doctor, he had his career ended because he had no cartilage left and his bones were grinding together. Total respect for the man putting his body through that torment for Australia.

Bowled himself into the ground in SA getting us a series win and that was basically him done 😢

Some batters/allrounders in the Shield making runs worth considering:

Tim Ward (27, Tas): He can play, solid technique and scores starts consistently but he struggles to convert his 50's into tons as a big concern.
Henry Hunt (28, SA): Interesting player. First few years were really good but then got burdoned with captaincy and struggled, but past couple of years he's been good in first innings'and poor in second.
Liam Scott (25*, SA): Finally batting to his potential this season, although his career average is still low. Probably needs a couple more seasons like this to really be a chance.
Jack Clayton (26, Qld): Clayton is a classic leftie, great cover drive, has a career average in the mid 30's. I can see him being a middle order staple for a while to come.
Aaron Hardie (26, WA): Was all the rage a few years ago before the injuries. I see him having a big future, I'm hoping he can establish himself to be a player in India in a couple of years time and allow us to play 4 spinners honestly.
Campbell Kellaway (23, Vic): One of my favourites, nephew of Duncan and Andrew from AFL fame, has a very solid technique but seemingly makes runs in the second innings more than the first.
Jack Edwards (25, NSW): I think he only makes it as a 6/7 but he's finally delivering on his promise with a 31/28 batting/bowling split in his career.

*Scott turns 25 on the 12th

Ward is a funny one. Bang on about his starts too. These are his last 7 scores...

37

66

Always looks rock solid, until he doesn't. Generally always bats time at least.

Poor decision making from CA will be the end of cricket as we know it. We had such a great thing growing up and it now appears to be all in tatters. Cricket is becoming an elitist sport which will only see less people interested in it.

Yep conversion has plagued Tim from his early PC days with Parramatta CC in Sydney. He is now showing encouraging signs to convert more.

NSW has four on the books. Phillipe, Hicks, Gilkes and Shaw
I like Philippes glove work so keep him where he is. I am content for Shaw to bat only. Hicks looks a future FC gloveman as he was one of two in the U19s. This kid can also bat in the top six. Gilkes is welcome to go to another state.

I think it’s a combination of things but the top end players are commanding huge $$ to stay in the system and we just don’t seem to be generating it. Going to a few days of the Test and an ODI uses to be my bread and butter but I could not tell you the last time I went to an ODI simply because they’re on at weird times when no one cares. Am I right in saying come the Sydney Test that’s it for International Cricket for the summer?

They way we've set up our summers has been poor. What even is ODI cricket anymore? Growing up I felt like there was cricket to consume every single day of our summer. Whether it be Domestic or International. I do believe the Sydney test is the last of interenational cricket which is crazy.

Happy to see Hogan in the runs again, he is coming along nicely. Same for Lee-Young, as only him and Peake scored any runs in the youth tour of India last year. Here are the names I went looking for:

Steven Hogan: 92(111)

Alexander Lee-Young 90(111)

Simon Budge 10(23)

Lincoln Hobbs 2(5)

Any one else you guys are keeping an eye on?
That 4 for me too in current U19s. My personal list is Riley Kingswell (NSW), Aidan O'Connor (TAS) Addison Sheriff (NSW), Lachlan Hardy (WA), Louis Smith (TAS), Patrick Zia (NSW). Will Malachuk (WA). They are bats or all rounders. Charlie Anderson (NSW), Albert Esterhysen (WA), Campbell Thompson (SA), Mahli Beardman (WA), Isaac Earl (NSW) as you prob already know are bowlers. I see a lot of promise in all these guys.
