Aussie squad named for U19 world cup. Always exciting, hopefully this cup gives us as many players to talk about as last time. Seems like a strong batting core, but its mostly unknowns for me, especially the bowlers.

Australia squad:
Oliver Peake (c),
Kasey Barton,
Naden Cooray,
Jayden Draper,
Steven Hogan,
Thomas Hogan,
Ben Gordon,
John James,
Charles Lachmund,
Alex Lee Young,
Will Malajczuk,
Nitesh Samuel,
Hayden Schiller,
Aryan Sharma,
William Taylor
A few WA boys that I've seen a lot of in Simon Budge and Zed Hollick will be very disappointed after long seeming destined to make the squad. But they've learnt a good lesson, having only themselves to blame after not performing to their level at the champs.

Yeah I was a little surprised not to see Budge. Lincoln Hobbs too is one that has some wraps on him before the champs so no doubt he is disappointed too.

really disappointed Archie Flynn didnt make the squad, he an underager? only explanation I can see
Flynn is not an underager I believe but he is definitely stiff, also Shaun Smith doesn't always get to play against great opposition at home in Country NSW but has proven himself at multiple carnivals to be a prolific scorer. Barbulovic (SA) seems very talented but he's an U17 (maybe U16 even I've heard) and could've been an inclusion for experience à la Peake at the previous WC.

Maybe Anderson should go to another state? Its tough one for the states
Its tuff being a promising cricketer in my state period. Basicly we have crap selectors that would rather hang onto a has been than promote a talented 20-25 yr old. Sam Konstas the exception. If we lose Anderson or any of those others I posted to another state, I will wash my hands of this lot for good.
Straker playing so much FC at QLD
From my state too, a prime example of lack of interest in these pathways boys I alluded to, so Qld pounced and threw in into the deep end, bypassing rookies. Thankfully Anderson was the same yr as Straker and he was at least given a rookie contract. Is now in his second rookie yr.

Barbulovic did play under 15s for SA last year but not sure if that's different age qualification to the normal stuff. Didn't play under 14's in 23/24.

He hit a 183 in first grade for SACA 19's last year, fair effort if he was only 15! Looking like one of SA's best batting prospects in a while.

They way we've set up our summers has been poor. What even is ODI cricket anymore? Growing up I felt like there was cricket to consume every single day of our summer. Whether it be Domestic or International. I do believe the Sydney test is the last of interenational cricket which is crazy.
T20 World Cup starts for us on 11 February, which would have an impact on scheduling this year.

Fair. Still feels like we get less cricket and less cricket coverage every eyar.

I know this thread is focused on Australian youngsters, but the 14 yo prodigy keeps on prodigying.

I dont think the cricket world has ever seen a kid even approaching the talent of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Best junior talent since Tendulkar no doubt. Hard to assess him compared to Bradman at the same age, given there was no internationalison of junior cricket in the 1920s.

Australia seems to care for test cricket and Big Bash only, and we want to see test players with their Big Bash teams as much as possible. ODIs have lost relevance.

Don't substitute the wants of Australian cricket fans with the decisions of Cricket Australia. Of coarse Australian fans want to see ODI's as it used to be a staple of the Australian summer.
It was a woeful decision by CA to replace ODI's with BBL.

IPL, BBL,100,T20, ODIs are just crap. Slogathons. Similar to LIV. Money making for the participants but nobody really cares. Without looking them up, can anyone supply the last winners of those competitions as opposed to test match results or golf major results?

You can't say "no one cares". Those competions you list get very big ratings still. IPL gets full houses every game. People stay up to watch the world cups of ODI and t20.

Outside the Ashes and Border Gavaskar trophy, there is actually alot of empty seats for test matches in Australia, but you don't see people that are snobish about test matches admit on cricket forums that this is the case.

There's absolutely no evidence to support this.

The tastes of Australian fans have changed - as taste always does.

BBL is very popular and ODIs have become notably unpopular. Australians seem to enjoy having club teams to support in a national cricket competition, and enjoy how easy to consume BBL is.

You can argue that the majority are wrong, but it seems inarguable that this is how they feel.

I think it's more accurate to say ODI's became inaccessable and unavailable.

The tri series was the highlight of the summer in the 80’s/90’s getting rid of it was a big mistake imo

Tell me you were a kid in 80s/90s without telling me you were a kid in the 80s/90s....

The tri-series was dying off by the 2000s, and international cricket sides don't want to be hanging around a country for any longer than they have to.

It was fun, I won't argue about that, but it's gone and it won't come back.

I agree that it won’t come back, a lot like how touring sides would play the state teams or county teams as they did in the past. Cricket schedules can no longer afford to have players missing the BBL or that other 20/20 crap in India.
