Still can't see tommo being a full time fixture in our 22 next season. Will play 12 or so games. From our 22 atm, youd say byrnes.

Serious question, where does he fit in the forward structre next season and who makes way?
I believe round 1, 2008 will see Mooney, Nathan Ablett and Hawkins all in the starting 22. Something like this:

Steve Johnson Mooney Chapman
Nathan Ablett Hawkins Varcoe

I think will be pretty close to it. Assuming full fitness and natural improvement of course.

Stokes should go in there somewhere, Varcoe on the bench maybe

Byrnes/Varcoe start on bench (so push a bench player out? even more pressure on fringe players) if tomahawk is fit and firing next year.
remember at one stage a lot of people were saying ottens, mooney and nab were going to be our forwardline. I think with ottens fit and back in the ruck there is no reason we cant have ....

FF: N.Ablett, T.Hawkins, M.Stokes
HF: P.Chapman, C.Mooney, S.Johnson

with varcoe, byrnes or djerkurra on the bench

That way we can rotate the talls between the FF and HF lines ie. Ablett swaps with Johnson or Mooney and does the lead up role for a while. Hawkins and Mooney can also rotate in and out of CHF.
IF 3 talls isn't working on a day then Hawkins and Ablett rotate off the bench and varcoe, byrnes or djerrkura inject some more speed into the forward line.

Depending on preseason etc I would like to see varcoe and djerrkura given a run through the middle at times to make sure the flexibility is there for rotations. Djerrkura can even go off the 1/2 back line at times (dont think varcoe could at this stage)

I'm the president of the "Chris Judd is seriously overrated by the media" club. Am I the only one that would be satisfied to see Juddy go anywhere else except Geelong?

I think he would bring an instablility to the playing group which has developed so well this year. The last thing the club needs is more back of house bickering.

Judd isn't overrated at all. When he is even 80% fit he's in the top 2-3 players in the League (I still think Brown is the best) but I agree that we shouldn't and won't be going for him.

What we'd need to give up to get him would be in the long term to the detriment of the club. We are blessed to have an excellent young group coming on as well as the best team in the league at the moment.

Besides I doubt there would be room on the salary cap to fit him in without cutting 2-3 players of worth to the club. Won't happen!

Hawkins will be part of the forward rotation along with Moons & Nath. There will be times when all 3 will be on the ground, when match ups suit.

Yep, as they were this year don't forget. All 3 played against Carlton, Richmond and West Coast. Didn't always work but we saw enough to indicate it might once Ablett and Hawkins get more experienced.

Apologies for omitting Stokes, must have been very strong coffee when I wrote that. Varcoe on the bench instead.

Best part is, Ottens stays in the ruck as well.

You must be joking

An unproven kid plus a pick for the best player in the AFL

Run that one past Thommo it would be done in a heartbeat
WOuldnt take it, common thought around league that HAwkins will be a star for 10 or so years. Our midfield looks quite good (and young) as it is now, so to have an up and coming KPP star is an extra bonus. So no Judd thank you all the same...

If Tomahawk is in, it would be as a third tall, which I have no problem with. Although right now Bomber seems content with Otto as our third key forward.

Nathan and Mooney are first in line right now, and the former's development is more important right now than Tomahawk's, who needs some more VFL experience for the moment.

I would only take Byrnes out of the side at the moment, if that is for Tomahawk I don't mind, though a balance argument would be raised over it.

watching the replay of the vfl p/f last night, it was clear that tomohawk is already a league above the guys there - sensational hands, great marking target, and everytime he kicks the ball, you can hear the thud from interstate! and he's a scary man in a tackle - saw him wrap up the opposition captain maloney, and it looked like a grizzly bear swamping prey, or an avalancherainingdown on some poor unfortunate skier :p

having said that, it's clear he still needs development time before he gets up to afl star standards - learning to read the play, impose himself on grown men, bring his fitness up etc.

nablett's also got star potential - won't ever be as physically imposing, but has the genetics, and likely greater skills. time will tell who will end up the better forward...

one thing for sure though, the club benefits immensely from the competition between the 2 of them for the 1 available big man key position spot, and so does both of their development. until they both prove they have the talent and maturity to hold a spot together, i reckon we keep rotating them through the team and the 2s; let em fight for it..!
