Hi Drakey. Didn't post a reply to your post, thought if I started a new topic it would look good for the board to have a few threads.

I was reasonably confident that next season would be better than this year, and that we'd at least make the eight.

But everything I read says differently. Apparently we will have to be content to be about 12th again!!! No way....surely after season 2000 the guys will pull their sox up and have a real dig. I know Rehnny won't be there, but I gather he was a negative influence this year anyway, so maybe Biglands, Marshy and Clarke will push on. With a new Captain and new leaders let's hope there'll be a new enthusiasm about the place.

Hi Crow54

Lets hope your right. I wouldn't worry too much about what people write preseason. Last season everyone had us as top 8 with a few top 4's thrown in.

We have a young side now & we need some of these guys to stand up.

My biggest concern is the coach. The last thing the club needs is to be going through coaches every 2 years but I do have my doubts about his ability. Listen to Geelong supporters & they will tell you the best thing he ever did for them is leave.

Crow54,

I agree with about next year. If a couple of guys like Perrie, Burton, Biglands etc can step up the way Goody and Edwards did this year, I think we can be around the eight.

Hopefully the coach will stop playing silly buggers and put people in the rights spots and leave them there.

I'm still a pissed off that they let Kym Costa go and let Gallager stay. I have to look away everytime he gets the ball because you know he's either going to get tackled or give the ball way. So bloody frustrating he's even worse than Connell....maybe not.

By the way, now that nominations for the draft are all in is there a list of the nominees on the net anywhere. I looked on the afl.com site but couldn't find one.

Spogs

Hey Spog, last year the AFL site listed the top 20 or so draft choices. There is a huge number of draftees, so I don't know if they actually publish all the names on the net. I heard the radio announcers reading some names from the draft, so they must have got a list from somewhere. I haven't checked, but maybe in the "media releases" site on the AFL site??

Hey everybody, Crow 54,

I wouldn't worry too much guys, I think we're in for a good year in 2001!!

I think our midfield is fine, Ricciuto, McLeod, Goodwin, Burton etc. make this a strong point of our team. Our backline with Stevens back from injury looks better, not sure about Robran though....

Our forward line is improving, Hewitt and Bode will help Jars, Vards and Welshy. The ruck is fine, plenty of options there. And most importantly, we've got rid of most of the old blokes, who were great in 97/98, but were slowing down. Apart from about 5 players, most of our team is 25 or under.

If Ayres doesn't stuff everything up by playing Jars, Roo, and Macca in the backlines, we can make the finals easily!!!!!

Go Crows

Hey Ant

"if Ayres dosn't stuff everything up ..."

THAT is the $64,000 question really isn't it ?

I agree with you - you're list is fine, typical Crows depth and ability there, no problems,.

But like everyone else - I really worry about the coach ...

cheers

“When it is like a game of basketball - 20-goal shoot-outs to both teams - it’s not the way we want to play,” Sanderson says. “And not the way I want to coach.”

Low risk, low return. And Adelaide has lost five of seven first quarters and kept losing in the first half of those five games.

I have never looked at the numbers of our first quarter but this did surprise me. Sando is doing something wrong prematch to get his players to win some quarters but failing to win the first quarter regularly.

Love reading these old posts. Don't remember writing them. Life's changed greatly since then (in some ways, not so in others, it seems). This Board has definitely changed. As far as I do remember, posters weren't as disparaging about the club - critical, but outright hatred and hostility was frowned upon.

Regarding the shoot-out, Rucci has written an article about "the Crows way" in today's Tiser which makes a good point. "There is no doubt the 19th Man would prefer to watch the Crows engage in a 20-goal-19 battle at the Oval rather than a repeat of the 11-9 scrap they saw on Saturday."

Well to be fair, while at the time of the OP we had just completed our second year of being pretty poor, the two years before that were premierships. We've lost all 4 PF's we've made since then since then with 05-06 being particular disappointing.

We've also been caught cheating.
