Is there much point taking it off Roo next year?
If he keeps it another year, it gives them a chance to assess Armo and Newnes further.
Likely it will be Armo, but with another 40 games under Newnes' belt, the picture will be a lot clearer.

Got to be Armitage. Leads from the front on the field and is a great media performer. Newnes would be second choice. I think it would be better to have a couple of seasons at VC before the top job for him.
Ok, I might be Armo's advocate but.....

I absolutely do think this is the right call.
Armo 1st, Newnes second

Yes there is a point. We arent 'taking it off him'. He should be giving up the job voluntarily. He has had his go.

Really?

Was our best in last week's drubbing imo. Didnt have much to beat mind you. Roo got some cheapies late when the game was over but Newnes was the only one up to it in the first half.
He's developed into a GOP but he cannot kick and will never be a star. Does a lot of the right things you'd expect from a leader but at the end of the day he cannot lead by example on field and you need that from a captain. You need someone who has the ability to will you across the line as a player in my opinion. He would be comfortably the worst player to be captain in the AFL at the moment.

Armitage is not ideal either but I reckon go with him until another more obvious candidate presents itself.

Sometimes the best player, isn't necessarily the best leader and vice versa...Bomber Thompson, Garry O'Donnell, Nick Maxwell, Cameron Ling etc were all great leaders and not the best players.

Cotchin is the worst Captain atm easily

Maverick Weller.

He'll VC at least. I don't know if I'm just a big fan, but there's something seriously impressive about him.

Agreed, I have no idea what his ceiling is. He's pretty mysterious because I never really anticipated him getting to the level that he's gotten and some of what he shows from time to time is seriously impressive. His ability to break tackles and evade in tight and then run extremely fast and run and carry has been impressive the last couple seasons, but what was interesting today was his disposal was excellent. A marked improvement from last season.

His desire and aggression around the ball are extremely admirable. He's a great leader and I'm really thrilled we picked him up. If he continues to improve from here we have a pretty damn impressive player.
