Well said Ben. Now I am not saying Monfries will be the greatest rover BUT if he is ever going to make it as a AFL player it will be as a clear inside midfielder not a outside one as he has not got great pace but he does have a very effective kick and a very effective handball- all attributes of a solid inside mid!
Sorry but i don't believe he is right to be an inside mid, he is to light and gets pushed off the ball to easily. IMO he plays his best footy up foward.

Don't expect Knights who is starting to make a string of poor decisions to do it though

Maybe you should watch games a with your eyes open. He has been used in the center bounces and he has been very poor. He just doesnt look like he has the natural instinct for it. He fumbles a lot and rarely gets a clean possesion from a clearance. Tonight he was used in the center a heap but was very ordinary.

Well lets give him a string of games in the centre, I believe that is his position, so lets see whether it is. If after 6 weeks he is still poor then fine shaft him to Bendigo, but lets give him a fair run as a actual ROVER

He has gone backwards doesnt look up to it I would be woied if i was him if we didnt have injuries he would be playing in Bendigo. The return of Hocking will be the demise of gus

This is his 4th season. What position do you think he has been playing all this time ?
He has been given plenty of opportunities in the middle and has failed.

I thought he was good last night.

Still needs to add some body weight, but at least he goes.

One of the few who used the ball by foot well.

Apart from the two short passes that hit Port players on the chest and the gruber pass he kicked inside 50 that ended up as a turnover.

On the chest is a bit of a stretch and one of those came as a result of a teammate refusing to attack the ball.

Excuse the grubber because (like Atkinson and Dyson) he was one of the few that actually took the game on.

He has mainly played up forward

We saw his best and worst.

The kid tries his guts out and puts his head over the ball. Ticks all the boxes there.

Sadly he got exposed for pace, body strength and skill. He'll never develop the body required to be a good AFL player. It's not in his genes.

He doesn't have the clean hands to be an inside mid and I can't see a spot for him. His kicking is very hit and miss.

I've been his biggest critic.

I see a future for him, I want to see him play out the year in the middle and see what develops.

His development was set back by playing so much footy at AFL level as a forward when he should have been playing at Bendigo in the middle.

Give him more midfield exposure and see how he goes.

No he hasn't.

He's gone into the midfield a few times, mostly in games were we are being punished.

Twice, he's been included in our starting midfield rotation. One of these was in the NAB Cup and he was very good.

And the previous three seasons ?

great point there longy, give him first crack in the middle with watson and houli. and then we will at least have 3 blokes in there that will put there bodies on the line.
for gods sake bye bye ricky

As a starting midfielder (either starting in the midfield on the ground, or off the bench)?

Not once.

What does it matter if he started there or not ?
Around the grounds at stoppages he has been rubbish, when he has gone into the middle he has been rubbish.

He is small and doesn't have any tricks to compensate for it.

At least Dyson has pace, Johns has height/bulk.
Angus is just a vanilla midfielder with no height and no pace.

What does he offer the side ?
