Thanks to some inspired idiocy from yours truly I ended up with both my passports having valid entry stamps for South Africa, so according to my EU passport I've been living illegally in SA since 1998.

Actually, the kids are probably not so bad (thanks to the joys of the interwebs). When I lived in the US in the 80's - some woman, after hearing I was from Australia, said "Oh Australia, that's in New Zealand isn't it?" Another tried to convince me they'd driven to Australia.
