Without having a great knowledge of this years draft, I dont think think there is much difference generally between picked 1,2,3,4 the national draft.. But if we were to get pick 1 or 2 in the pre season draft gives a lot of bargaining power in trade week, and the prospect of gaining a good player for nothing.

You will smash us.

We are your bitches.

Even when we were flying on top of the ladder you beat us or pushed us to the limit.

I am heading over to Melbourne 4 the game and staying with my sister (she is an Essendon Member) and for weeks we have been calling it the "How many bourbons can we have during the game Trophy" :p

Question??

Now that Sheedy has gone is the jacket waving thing still gonna happen or did it just leave with him??

We had Sir James then ;)

I'd say it's gone.

Wooden spoon won't kill us. Worst things can happen.

I'm hoping Knights treats every game left in this dismal season like a practice match and continues to play the Myers,Pears,Jettas,Neagles etc..every week.

And to those who say one top 5 draft pick can't influence a side in his first year...wake up will ya. You only have to look at Palmer's impact in the Docker team atm. The kid is their number 1 ball getter....after 8 or 9 games!
A Daniel Rich or one of the many outstanding on-ballers on offer in this years draft is too good to pass up.

It's not tanking. It's playing the kids and not being anywhere near feeling shattered after yet another loss.
He was pick 7 and they have only won one game.

I am not shattered at every loss as I can see what is happening at the club but I would prefer to have 4 or 5 wins to finish off the season rather than getting none and getting the number 2 pick.

Why the hell would someone bother traveling all the way to Adelaide hoping for a loss? windyhill you are a disgrace mate.

I`m tipping now isn`t a good time to mention that I`m off to see The Benny Bombers take on Box Hill later today then.

With no draft positions at stake, at least you won't have any confusion about who to barrack for.

agree with Windy... not a great deal winning "rubbish" games when it COSTS you more than it GAINS...

there were 2 winners in 2007... The Cats got the choccies.... and the Blues got #1 pick

Well we will just wait and see what happens with the GC. Yes it will make things slightly harder but there is nothing totally frim in place yet say says the GC will get all the decent picks.
We will finish bottom 4 or 5 in the next two seasons so we simply have to make sure that we get a decent percentage of the draft picks right.

no need to wait...we already Know what concessions they are going to get...

and with West Sydney coming in after that if you don't get TOP quality kids at the end of this season then you will spending the next 4 years in the cellar for Nothing

You should be ashamed of yourself. You have obviously been in W.A too long. A spoon is the last thing we need.

How could getting the #1 pick in the National and Preseason draft be the last thing that we need?

Those hoping for us to lose should be ashamed of themselves and are not true Essendon supporters.

The No 1 pick does not guarantee the best player in the draft and even if he was it doesn't mean we are automatically going to improve out of sight. He is only one player in a squad of 38.

Picks 1-4 and 5-9 are generally pretty even.

It is far, far better for us to start winning some games and get a bit of confidence around the place. You'll be amazed how much our players will start to improve individually once we start winning some games.

We have three possible winning games in the next month and we should be going all out to win them.

We are not Carlton and I don't want to be put into a group of supporters that think losing is a good thing. They are considered the lowest of the low and it is because of their behaviour towards the end of last season that got them that way.

Merv/Desawx - can we have a tanking thread so all the non supporters can talk amongst themselves and I don't have to get subjected to that crap ?

nah i think u guys will defently be the favourite hopefully it will be a good game but iam tipping essendon to win.

If you guys play the way that you played against Sydney, we will not get close.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Another ____ing embarrassing thread.

You're a tool, windy

I don't care if the guy was going to be the best player ever, I would never want us to tank.

Spot on, Sean.

There is a difference between turning up and barracking for a win and then being disapointed but not totaly annoyed with a loss and simply not wanting to win at all before the event.

This more than any other post sums my feelings up , well put Ant. I still go to every game and yell myself absolutely hoarse, ride every kick and contest. Some of you may know me from the grog squad and know I`m probably louder and more energetic when we are getting pumped than I am when we are on top/winning.
And benny the gooner, who are you again son ?

I just want to see the young blokes given the time to show something and give their 100% ........if that means we lose every game for the rest of the year so be it.

I'll be there every week like always. Even if i have to drink my self silly to numb the pain.

I can see Windy's point and also the other blokes points in this thread.

Go Dons.

Now is not the time to win. Went to Adelaide last week, did you venture over Cab ? Was very impressed with the effort, showed alot of heart, would have been very annoyed if we had got up. What good would it have done us ?
I bleed Essendon, I breathe Essendon, I also see the big picture cabby.

I was conceived the night of the '85 Grand Final that Essendon won.
I win :D

Right, now I'm really p1ssed off.

I am heartily offended at the suggestion that because I (and others here) want to actually see Essendon win a flag that I am somehow a traitor or non-supporter.

Let me lay it out for you as I (and I suspect others) see it:

1. The system is COMMUNIST!!! It deliberately attempts to redistribute player talent so that there is a theoretical equalisation.
2. There is no getting around the system! The lower you finish, the higher the rewards.
3. The system SUCKS!!!
4. Our chances of winning a flag this year are non-existent!
5. Our trading was so poor during the 2000-2004 period that we are not just a little way off winning a flag, but a miracle away.
6. It is time to work the stupid, broken system for all we can get out of it. We need to lie back and just think of England!

This logic is hardly flawless, but it does have great explanatory power. It does not take into account the negative value of losing each week on morale or on development. But, for that, it cannot be said to be the philosophy of someone who does not love the team.

I can’t quite bring myself to WANT the dons to lose, but I sure don’t want to win this season until it is safe to do so. I used to think that teams that tanked were low-lives. I still do, but that is how the game works from now on. We are all made unclean by this stinking system that makes us want the opposite of what we should want in order to ultimately get what we want. And believe me when I tell you that I do not for one moment believe that the players are trying to lose. That is just a nonsense. This is only about what we as supporters are hoping and praying for each week and over the next few years. It is about how WE feel.

I feel dirty. I feel degraded. I want to throw up. At the end of every game I try not to break things and am glad I don’t have a dog, or he would surely get it. My head tries to comfort my heart. Then I grit my teeth and try to generate some passion for a Dockers, Weagles or Demons victory that weekend that will seal the deal by pushing that team above us on the table.

God I hate this. I don’t even WANT to believe what I am saying, but I find the logic inescapable. As a supporter, I can no longer justify wins that earn us pride because the cost of that pride is so high that it means that pride in defeat is all that we will have for the next ten years.

At least we nearly beat Adelaide. In this upside down world, nearly winning is the best I can hope for.

So for the haters, I understand why you don’t want us to lose, I even concede that there are valid reasons why a win might be helpful for the existing talent on our list. But for those of us who have come to the soul-destroying conclusion (right or wrong), that finishing last is the best way forward in this stupid system, a little bit of a break from accusations that we are traitors or not real supporters would be welcomed.

Please. This is all bad enough as it is. :o

Completely understand what you mean mate. The system is flawed. Bastards at the AFL have put fans in a very compromising position. We'll see how the season pans out...
