what are all you collingwood fans expecting and what do you hope to gain from next year e.g.position wise

its a proven fact that fully fit, and lucky, we can be top four, and with a tonne of injury and no confidence bottom two. i think we can rise to around 9th or 10th in '06, and with a bit of luck scrape in. im looking at this year to be a base to a 7th or 8th next year and with the rise continuing after that, with our young brigade from last year, this year and the kids we draft in november and next season to really take us forward and, as a result, be up there in contention in 2007, 2008. our kids will be some of the best in a few years due to last season and this season's 'sacrifice' if you will and we are due for a bit of luck in the medical room as well after the last two seasons surely...

Most trolls would say we're delusional if we think we can make the finals, but it's not unrealistic. Richmond weren't far off and they had an worse list than us this year!
We have had horrible injuries for two years straight, and whilst it is not an excuse for our pathetic depth, at full strength, we are not a bad unit.
We only lost to the Swans by a kick up there with bugger all players, showing good spirit. We also got bent over a couple of times showing limp wristed spirit.
It all comes down to injury management, and desire.

Back onto the subject though, I'm pretty confident with a bit of injury luck (for a change) we will scrap into the eight. I think it just depends on how some of the other sides around us on the ladder improve next year. eg. I expect hawthorn to be finals contenders next year.

) but if we are capable of doing that again next year, with the full list and a spot in the 8, i don't see why collingwood can't be playing in the 2006 grand final.. long shot i know, but worth the theory

In 2002 we beat all of the other 7 top 8 teams except Port Adelaide, who we beat in the finals anyway. Apart from that, I agree with you.
I don't think that finals are out of the question at all, I don't think that our team was all that bad this year. Injuries to key players at crucial times killed us, yes we still would have had a bad year but we got murdered as a result of our injuries. Take 2 or 3 of your top 5 most importand players out for any given game for any given side and they will strugle... AKA West Coast against the pies... woah....

Dude, that's the DEFINITION of the Colliwobbles.... ability to win finals but not the Grand Final...
sheesh! If anything, 02-03 PROVED that 1990 was in fact a fluke, and the Colliwobbles are still very much alive.

In 2002 we faced one of the best sides in the last 50 years, and came within 9 points, or maybe even a bit of dodgy umpiring of beating them.
In 2003 we went in without Rocca, and while we should've done better, the last few years have shown us exactly how good we are without Rocca. We were still going up against that juggernaut team as well.

I agree. I'm still not prepared to say that we would have lost anyway had Rocca played in 2003. The team basically knew they couldn't win without him, which was evident in the way they played. We were unlucky to meet Brisbane in our time at the top. I would have taken Sydney or West Coast any day.

Except for Port Adelaide all grand finalists over the past twenty years have had a great run with injury. Even in our glory year all the way back in 1990 we had 19 good players and had roughly one change a week.
When the filth won in 1995 (or whenever) their six defenders missed 6 games in total for the year.
The swannies had a great run this year ([B]not only from the timekeepers and umpires Should excite the Trolls[/B]) West coast went well until the GF with injury and Stkilda well they did struggle all year.
Have a look at the age and how many games the top five players in each club missed Buckley, Rocca, Tarrant, Fraser and Clement missed 52 games and Clemo came off with a hamstring in the last game with 5 minutes remaining.
Most other teams had 15 to 20 games missed.
I would shudder to think how many games were missed by our top ten
Lets have a decent run with injury and lets see how our forward line goes

It would kick 15 goals a game minimum

I expect it from supporters of other clubs because they may not follow our injury list - but many Collingwood people refuse to recognise it as a real issue for us this year, too.

My work colleagues WTTF, Koutou43, Da Shag on Fire all barrack for the filth and can I suggest you look at my thread on the filth board in relation to the "New Filth Recruiting Manager" whom was recruited from the Freo Shockers.
But yes maybe we need to look at our Medical Staff but we had a great run with Injury in 2002 & 2003 we just need to understand why the AFL likes to apply suspension handicaps to us, yet is happy to ignore the thuggery from interstate clubs.
The ability to draft upto 6 players to replace Lokan, Williams, B Morrison, Davidson, King, B Shaw who provided our list zero will assist but we need our top 10 players on the park

If we are not aiming to win the flag then what the hell are we doing? Draft a mid with pick 2, get Gardiner, Lappin and Power and win the flag. We'd need plenty of luck but if Sydney can do it we can.
