We should trade Laycock off with our 2nd round pick and see if we can upgrade and get a 1st rounder.

I had that as a suggestion last year, got shot down for it. Laycock might still come good but atm he is proving to be not up to it.

On the draft i feel we need a Marc Murphy/Brock Mclean type hard midfielder who is consistant week in week out. Tom Hislop may be this and i hope he is, but at the moment we dont have one. I think drafting a Ruckmen could be a good idea, having the luxury of Patrick Ryder in an Adam Goodes role would be excellent. We still need need a gun CHB, as patrick probably wont be the full time one in the long run.

Here are some names for this years national draft to watch-

Ebert, Rioli, Vezpremi, Kreuzer, Grimes, Cotchin, Masten, Maric, Morton, Gugliotta, Myers, Notte, McEvoy, Walker, Bellchambers, Stanton, Sampey, Whitecross and our boy Darcy Daniher.

He should go to Essendon if he wants to stay home and play for the club he supported by reports. And we did give him a run in the pre-season. I will be pissed off if he goes to Sydney and turns out a gun

Agree with everything youv'e said.
The reason i thought trading Laycock off would be a good idea is because I think he will never be a dominant ruckman, plus he's slow. He's alright up forward at times, but i think that the way the game is going, we need a dominant quick ruckman. IMO, i think Laycock will turnout to be about as good as Hille at best. He could do as a 2nd ruckman, but we need a #1 ruckman and Hille could be our 2nd anyways.

We need a Ruck or a Midfielder
The guys i would be looking out for in ruck would be Kreuzer and Bellchambers and if we go midfielder then hopefully a guys like Cotchin and Masten

It wouldnt surprise me if Geelong's King becomes available at year's end. He wouldnt be the oldest ruckman we've recruited. I think he needs a change of clubs to resurrect his form and would definitely suit having some experienced to our ever developing midfield.

No, Im sick of sheedy recruiting all of these old players that have no effect on the club. We're better off just drafting youth.

Thought the same thing myself the other day. The only real worry for me is is injury rate is very high.

Drafting another young ruckman wont help our cause. The two we currently have are pretty ordinary so we need to look at an upgrade for the time needed until Ryder can take over the duties.

What's this?

After being touted as top 4, now you're thinking about tanking for picks?

Shame on you Bomber fans, Finals is something for all to fight for, giving up a place in the 8 for picks is illogical, you lot can get 12 wins!

He's 28. Ill apply for my pension card if thats considered 'old'
I didn't mean old old, and just meant older, i phrased it wrong. What i meant was, that im sick of sheedy recruiting "older" players that he thinks he can turn them into good players but they just take up space on our list and do barely anything eg. Alvey, Cole, Campo, Murphy ect.
Recruiting King sounds like a good idea, but ive just lost faith in recruiting players from other clubs.

How have you rated Dustin Fletcher's season thus far?
He's been alright considering the is ball coming down there so often (stupid midfield  ).

He's been better than alright. He's been sensational, is probably the AA CHB at the moment, leading our B&F and made our results a lot less painful than they otherwise would have been.

He's having his best season since probably 2000, and Mal Michael has been significant in that.

Mal hasn't been outstanding himself, but he's made Dustin Fletcher a better player. And the reports pre-season were that he'd done a lot of work with Andrew Lee and Paddy Ryder.

Paddy's going alright...

And Cole and Alvey were 21-22 when they were recruited to the club.

It is quite interesting that people have given up already. Personally, I think the team is full of talent with a good mix of key position players, speed, experience and youth. On paper, I think it could go all the way. I don’t rate the coach much anymore, but that is another story.

Maybe the tanking ideas are the symptom of the draft. It has got some people addicted to the easy way. However, teams like Brisbane, Port, and Sydney which haven’t bottomed out, but are still up there, so I don't think tanking really is the way to go. The reason why they are still up there is that they aren’t seeking the easy options, or making excuses for late draft picks for why they aren’t doing any good.

Essendon will focus on speed and midfielders who can kick. While we may have recruited too many kpp we have also acquired Jetta, Hislop, Dempsey and Davey in the last two years.
The best mid in this years draft is Trent Cotchin who is at PEGS and the Knights. Problem is he is a top 2 player and I cannot see us getting him. Chris Masten from WA is a solid ball magnet but I need to see more to be convinced. Craig Bird from NSW and Mitchell Farmer from the Calder Cannons are two I like. Both possess speed, and are physically strong. Darcy daniher may not be a monty to get to the Bombers. If Sydney offer a higher pick than us then they can claim him. With Neagle, Lee, Johns, Bradley and Gumbleton all on our list will we move heaven and Earth to get him? Don't think so.

If Daniher is looking like he could be a promising player who we could develop in defence we would be very keen i think. Masten was very good in the under 18 champs last year, i would take him at Essendon based on what i saw. Grimes is good talent with great skills, maybe not a pure midfielder though.

We are a fair way off knowing who will go where though, Sellar was in contention for #1 last year slipped to 14, same as Mitch Clarke in 05.
