Darcy daniher may not be a monty to get to the Bombers. If Sydney offer a higher pick than us then they can claim him. With Neagle, Lee, Johns, Bradley and Gumbleton all on our list will we move heaven and Earth to get him? Don't think so.

If he nominates Essendon, then Sydney are in the same position as everyone else aren't they?

If they offer their first pick, then won't we have to use our second pick (next best)?

If Sheedy is still at the club, I can't imagine him not being at Essendon.

Strange, I've heard King was fantastic and McKinnon did nothing but further confirm his "spud" status.

King was good around the ground and when he went forward but McKinnon beat him in several ruck contests which is a major concern.Which is why i am withdrawing my previous thought;)
Lachy wasnt a total spud today.

i think our backs are good with the likes of fletch/mal and mcphee oh and ryder.... and our forwards are good with lloyd/lucus/davey and up and coming of johns

we need another decent ruckman cause hille is our only good one and laycock sucks and ryder isnt quite ready for ruck yet... and out midfield... all we really have is stanton....

so i say get a decent ruck and trade for some decent midfielders

If Daniher is looking like he could be a promising player who we could develop in defence we would be very keen i think. Masten was very good in the under 18 champs last year, i would take him at Essendon based on what i saw. Grimes is good talent with great skills, maybe not a pure midfielder though.

We are a fair way off knowing who will go where though, Sellar was in contention for #1 last year slipped to 14, same as Mitch Clarke in 05.

The midfield keeps on getting smashed week in week out and should be looked at with at least there first pick and hope maybe a ruckman like Wood would slip through to the second round like what has seemed to have happened in the last 2 or 3 drafts.

Is there any ruckman in the VFL, WAFL or SAFL ect.. who would be able to step into AFL football like Hudson or Simon Taylor who would possible be better than McKinnon?

Aswell as drafting a high draft midfielder at the end of the year, i think we should trade for some young talent (fast skillfull in and under mid and an outside quick skillful mid) eg. Lewis, Higgins, Rosa and/or maybe even a young developing ruckman.

Of those three, the only one we'd be a chance of getting is Rosa.

And he's very ordinary.

I'm not sure we need to draft midfield talent, we need to develop the talent we've got and add to it.

Dempsey, Jetta, Hislop, Lonergan, Watson, Davey, Houli, Winderlich, Lovett, Monfries and co all have undoubted talent.

We need to let them develop and continue to draft well.

If they offer their first then we have to match it with our first rounder, if they do that then i'd let him walk. I've heard some mixed reviews on the kid.

They were just a few, there's probably many many more.
In what way's do you think Rosa is ordinary?

He's one paced and has ordinary skills.

Do you have to match the round, or do is it next pick?

If we had pick one and the Premiers offered pick 16, it seems like a raw deal.

What happens if we trade our first pick in October during trade week?

When does the bidding take place?

it might be next pick, you would have to use your 2nd round selection. Its got me confused.

I thought it was your next highest selection.

Which means, the following could happen -

Had Tom Hawkins been in this years draft, Geelong could have traded their first pick for a gun player at another club, knowing Hawkins was worth an early pick and then used their second pick on Hawkins.

From what I understand of it, the system is there to be manipulated somewhat.

I think we need midfielders and a full back. As for trades to get a higher pick how about this for a deal. Bolton, bradley, watson, and the 2 johnsons for chris judd:)

WC would have to throw in kerr and their first 2 picks before id feel comfortable in pulling the trigger on that deal.

And what seven players would West Coast delist to accomodate that deal...[/quote]
If that deal did happen i couldn't care less who they got rid of, just as long as we had judd and they had the others

You'd think if you traded away a draft pick knowing Hawkins would be a 1st rounder then it would be tough t***ies, but this is the AFL we're talking about

But if the rule is, you give up your next highest pick...it wouldn't matter.

Unless of course the bidding takes place before the trade period.

Yeah, I said it should be tough luck if you did, unless it is before the trade period the AFL may have another problem.

No, If the premiers offered pick 16, you would have to use your best pick AFTER pick 16
