Next Years Expectations

The midfield is actually starting to come together and look quite good when they are all on the field. I think it is time next year to put Deledio in the middle and tell him he needs to dominate games.

A Grade Mids: Deledio, Cotchin, Martin, Foley, Pick 6 (will be a mid)

You cannot tag 4 players. If Deledio goes in the middle you would suggest that he might get tagged some games along with Cotchin, which would let Martin run free as well as Foley who has always played with a tag. IMO Foley is A grade and very important to our clearances. Sometimes they may have to leave Deledio and tag the other two which would mean he would rack them up. If we get Atley he is ready made and you can add him to that list. That would be 5 A-graders going forward.

B/C Graders: Edwards, Morton, Jackson, Collins, Tuck

Edwards took huge strides forward this year and his disposal is so pure when up and running. Saw him deliver a bullet 40m pass to Post on the weekend in the first quarter and loved it.

Morton has the potential to go above this group imo. If he can get fit he will be our version of Chapman.

Jackson is C grader but a good stopper and a half decent run with player.

Collins is probably more of a potential B grader atm considering he has not played that much midfield this year. Still rate him as a midfielder who can kick goals but I like him resting in the forward line. He is very strong above his head.

Tucky is a star clearance player and you know he will go all day.

I think this is where we will improve if firstly our A grade mids get a good pre season under there belt (1st time for Cotchin) and Foley gets back fit, but secondly if guys like Edwards and Morton take the next step up because they have the ability too.

This is where tambling will be important. As a forward he is not worth playing, but as a defender he makes our team look good. We saw it in 2009 but he didn't play defence at all in 2010 and we had to put Deledio there

Agreed but his aerial ability defensivley is no where near that of Lids.

The other thing I would like to see from all those mids is 'a want' to run defensivley. Our midfield is so lazy...biggest one way traffic going around and it showed on Saturday.

I don't think Lids really uses his strength in the air while he's in the backline, though. He doesn't go third man up at contests, and he rarely marks incoming balls. He's usually tagged so he doesn't really have anyone to spoil most of the time, either. The only strong marks from opposition kicks he's taken this year has been when he pushes up the ground and marks the opposition kickout (a la the Adelaide game).

Tambling will play on the small forwards that we struggle with so he'll be able to compete in the air. We'll have enough talls with Astbury(195cm), Gourdis(194cm), Mcguane/Thursfield(192cm). Deledio is too short to play key position anyway. I think we struggled when Tuck, Morton and Jackson played in the same midfield. Probably need to force Tuck out of the team next year. Would be pretty good depth

I don't really care about wins.

I ONLY care about wins -
If Id like to have 10 better players for sure. Are there 10 kids available that we rate highly? will be finding out in the off season I guess.

However I reckon we need to develop the young players we have got, all our squad is young except for Tuck - done enough- should get another year or 2 Newy- playing his best footy, ummm Moore - not exactly trade bait and whilst I dont see him as essential, is playng his best footy this year Do we even have any others over 25? Kingy - one of my faves, also just played his best done enough I reckon, will need some more tough in the middle without Cuz. Jackson - see Kingy.

If we made NO CHANGES I wouldnt cry - ok that would leave us with our 1st 2 picks to cover Cuz, Simmo. I probably would cry. Ill cry if we scrap 10 players in a compromised draft too. Well, actually I guess if we are going to make the most of our new improved recruiting department,we are going to be doing some recruiting! What I would like is to DEVELOP players well, instead of hopingto luck upon a finals side by happening upon 40 grand finalists from draft picks. Assume Goo, Hicks are elevated - Roberts has already gone? or did he come back?
are we going to re-rookie Alroy elevate him or send him on his way?

I expect 6-7 changes
I expect another year of experimentation, but would hope to do that in the NAB, first half and start to get our sht together in the 2nd half to see whats missing

IMO Tuck is more valueble than Jackson. HE was shocking on the weekend.

I disagree with the Deledio comment. I have seen him spoil and take a heap of contested marks this year.

You wouldn't move both Connors and Lids to the midfield I think Connors will always be a HBF which is good because we need that run with classy player and he is it.

Connors Newman and Tambling combined with Gourdis, Astbury and Moore. One of Thurs or McGuane in reserve and the other traded.

thursty and mcguane have been playing as 1st and 2nd tall defenders for 2-3 years and have done pretty well. So they can definately play as 3rd and 4th talls

I reckon Richmond will finish either 11th or 10th next year. They should improve a fair bit on this year considering the bulk of the team is on the rise. Maybe 7 or 8 wins and a reduction in thrashings.

McGuane should be traded to the Gold Coast this year maybe for their second round pick. Richmond already have several players like Thursfield, Gourdis, Rance, Moore to fill a defensive role. Would like to see the Tigers add either one of Gaff/Ately or Polec (he seems a good size) and get Prestia with a later pick to be a classier small forward option than Nahas or White who can rotate through. I would also like Richmond to target a player like Josh Hill from the Bulldogs who can add something to the forward line.
Next year Richmond will improve because:
1) Rucks will continue to develop 2) Jack is a legitimate kpf 3) Big guys like Rance, Vickery, Post will all be older and stronger 4) Cotchin and Tambling should have more of an influence than this year 5) Connors and Morton should be more settled 6) The whole side will be more settled next year.

Here's my defence:

FB: tambling gourdis newman
HB: connors astbury mcguane

with thursfield or farmer on the bench

Here's my centre and midfield:

C: morton cotchin edwards
FOLL: browne deledio foley

with martin, jackson and graham on the bench

Here's my forward line:

HF: taylor post nason
FF: reiwoldt griffiths hicks

Maybe Gaff could be on a wing and morton on a forward flank. Hopefully Hicks fills the role of small forward

Games into kids, games into kids. Cracked record as the coach said it's 2 years of getting games into our young squad. So I'm expecting very much the same as this year but without the horrid first weeks.

On another side note, how about we have a quiet year as far as the press goes. No-one drunk fighting, no court appearances, no late night hospital trips or players pissing off. The onfield stuff will take a while but I'm confident we have the right people steering the ship. But lets just have a year without the press flinging shit at us due to off field issues:thumbsu:

I would hope Vickery can ruck next year. Browne is big but he is slow and will get killed around the ground by even Mumford. No good imo.

Martin should not start on the bench either...

Well with a starting midfield of cotchin, deledio and foley we will have the luxury of bringing martin off the bench. Maybe start Foley on the bench

I'd like to see lids play as a half forward/wingman aka richo style
I'd like tambling to be tried as a tagger, and also played in defence
I'd like vickery to be tested as a full-forward, especially if he hangs out with angus graham in the off-season.
I'd like angus graham to hang out with daniel jackson and build up his fitness.
I'd like to see a cap of 6 ~180 club players playing per game.
I'd like to see 3 players 190cm+ playing in the forward line next year.

Im expecting us to play finals next year. I will be disappointed if we don't.
Almost all our players should improve during the off-season and given there are a whole bunch of teams lingering at the middle of the road we should be capable of surpassing them. At full strength i think there are only 4 teams that i would not expect to beat (collingwood, geelong, st kilda, western bulldogs) however on our day i believe we can beat anyone.

I expect considerable improvement next year.

No longer will we be fielding a core group of 19 and 20 years olds. Edwards, Conners, Collins and Riewoldt will be into their 5th year. While Jackson, White, Graham, Thurstfield and McGuane have been around for even longer will be in their mid 20's.

Next year we should have a pretty strong inside midfield with Foley back. Cotchin, Foley, Martin, Tuck and Jackson would win their fair share of clearances against even the best teams.

Imo a few blokes need to step up in order for us to succeed.
- Tambling. Now that we have a multitude of inside mids he no longer needs to get his own ball. Put him on the back flank or wing.
- Post. Will be in his 3rd year and needs to become a viable option up. I'm not expecting 2 goals a game, but if he were to play 22 games and kick 30 goals it would be a good result.
- Morton. He needs to become our version of Didak or Chapman - a real goal kicking midfielder.
- Vickery. He will also be in his third year and whether its up foward or in the ruck needs to not be liability in the side.
- Conners. Needs to improve his kicking and fitness. Could be a real weapon if he gets this right. Or he could be McMohan Mk II.

I reckon we will just fall short of the 8, 9 - 12th. This acceptable if we start to play a better brand of football and minimize the 40+ point beatings. Needs to be a strong slingshot into 2012 where we hopefully will be ready to give the big boys a crack

we didnt field a core group of 19 20 yr olds only martin vickery and astbury from that group have played a significant amount of games.

already we have lost cuz, what roughly a 270 game player and even at 32 one of the best two mids we have.

we also lose 100 plus game players in simmonds and mcmahon even though they have played little or no senior footy. would also think 110 game player in polak will be gone.thats about 600 games gone just there from a list that has low ave games percentage as it is.

i would be gobsmacked if we do not have 9 or 10 new faces at the club next yr most of those new faces should be kids.

to me no matter what we do we are behind the 8 ball in size structure skills smarts and definately lack for quality.
personally i can see us turning over 10 or 12 this yr and possibly another 8 or 10 the yr after.

finally i think it folly to play both jackson and tuck in the one team they are just to deficient in to many areas so while good in some aspects we get smashed in others.

to me its very much a development yr again with as many kids as practicable getting games. people should forget about the win loss column its absolute folly and delusional if people think we can turn around in one draft the shambles that miller and wallace left.

and if you are looking for improvement or basing projected improvement on the backs of mcguane jackson white and graham you are going to be awfully disappointed even thursfield is limited.

My expectations of next year is that, as kap kity tiger says, we dont scrape the bottom of the barrel with the draft and take ten 18 year old kids, it could possibly be like 2005 all over again, with someone like kyle archibald coming in at pick 137....

if we want to draft then draft, but they dont have to be all 18, there is so much talent runnign around in the WAFL, SANFL and VFL, have a look at some 21-23 yo players...but please no repeat of 2005

We took 3 players in the 2005 draft....

next years expectations should be much like this year.

i expect to see the ENDEVOUR that we have seen through large parts of this year, further development of some of the youngsters, a bit of 'pruning' of the list, and then further practice and implementation of the game plan that dimma thinks will set us up for success in the next few years after that.

give me a reason to keep going to the games. i've loved it this year

I expect us to make the 8. There will no doubt be some second year blues but I expect to finally see some guys enter the peak of their careers.

Of the bottom 8, really us and Melbourne should be the movers. Essendon are going to self destruct, Port seem a fractured club and changing the coach might not weed out the problems. Brisbane topped up and we all know where that leads. Adelaide will lose too many talented players to retirement. West Coast have had the stuffing knocked out of them by losing basically their whole midfield. North will be thereabouts (as always), but I don't see there will be a lot of improvement from them next year.

I remain sceptical on Freo. Which is the real one? The dawks are a middle of the road team, Carlton also. Sydney must surely begin to feel the bit of age too. I feel that any of these four could slip. There's a gulf between them and the top 4.

I expect us to make 7th or 8th next year and probably be bundled out by a more mature club.

Eight wins with an ability to move the ball up field after a point has been scored against us!!!

No finals next year but 2012 is a must.

I just want to see all the kids being played and gaining experience. They still have a lot to learn so next year is definantly another year of training and experimenting. Looking forward to 2012 where I believe we really can start to become a competitive outfit.
