It'll be interesting to see what the NBA does next season (or possibly the season after) which may change their pricing model. Their League Pass is managed and operated by a third party service provider but the NBA sets their own pricing model. It's also the same provider we use for GamePass International (we manage the domestic market ourselves), and they also do the UFC, PGA, WWE, and a bunch of other sports.

There's a few shifts going on in the digital sports streaming business over here right now though. MLB have their own digital business (BAM) that powers both their own sport, but also NHL, the tennis and others. The interesting thing for the NBA is that they have a new TV rights deal and Disney (who own the ABC network and ESPN) just bought a big stake in MLB's BAM business. I suspect they'll switch providers before too long. Our digital rights are also up for grabs over the next couple of years as well, so it's an interesting time behind the scenes.

NFL game pass is definitely a little too expensive this year specially due to uncertainty with jobs, lower Australian dollar and 1 am games.

That said the PS4 app makes it tempting and the ability to share accounts (not sure if one person can be on PC while another on PS4 at the same time is possible or one user at a time). $265.00 is a mountain of a price though and it's the equivalent of watching one PPV a month while the NFL season is on. Might just stick to free to air this year as I don't care too much who I watch.

Agree larkis

It's never thought about the issue of renewal in the past but if I measure it in terms of costs per game, it is hitting north of 20AUD to watch your team and a few other national games per week.

Having moved to Singapore I haven't yet found FTA or cable services providing NFL coverage so the subscription maybe more palatable if I need GamePass to watch TNF, SNF and MNF games as well.

If I was back in Australia I might consider revisiting the renewal.

I'm out of the boat. Perhaps I could've justified the price... if their customer service wasn't such a ****ing disgrace.

I emailed them about 9 days ago asking why I hadn't received the email that others have alluded to (about paying the same price as last season and being upgraded to the season plus) - I got the automatic bounceback saying I should hear back "within a business day".

6 days later they finally got around to replying... and they didn't even answer my friggen question. They just sent what appeared to be a template email informing me that that the Team Pass and Season Pass would not be available. No shit, you dumb campaigners.

So they can **** off. Between 7mate and ESPN (and maybe Twitter?) we get at least 5 live games a week, plus we get Redzone channel; and I'll just torrent the Eagles games not on tv.

I consistently say that piracy was never about people being tight arses - it was about accessibility. And nearly $20/week for a streaming service means it's no longer accessible. I can't wait for their subscriber numbers to dive and for them to realise that they've made a terrible mistake getting rid of the cheaper packages and by not adjusting the price in light of changes to currency.

Why should they change the price due to currency changes?

Steam doesn't alter its prices, online retailers don't alter their prices.

Because they've always had different prices for different regions - of course their prices are adjustable.

So why shouldn't they change prices to reflect changes to the conversion rate? It's not like we get paid in US dollars - so our money hasn't magically become worth 20% more.

I must admit I admire you fella's a great deal. To have to get watch NFL games live at 3am Monday mornings is a true testament to your commitment. If the Browns aired at 3 am my ass would be so asleep its not funny.

I bitch and moan about Crows games that have mid afternoon start times causing me some 3am starts...but those are on Saturday or Sunday and I have weekends off.

So tip of the hat to all you blokes. :thumbsu:

To be fair - I get home from work - wait until we are about 2-3 TD's down halfway through the second quarter and then switch to the condensed version.

I'm ok with the high price point. 11 playoff games + 16 regular season games for your own team = roughly $10 a game in Australian dollars. That's fair if that's what I want to watch. Except that's not the product for everyone.

The reality is that what they expect the customer wants and what the customer actually want differs and they don't seem to care. It seems the product is only for hardcore fans that want to watch every game and don't have any obligations in life. Not for people just following their team or just want to watch the NFL related show or something.

The app works great, streams well and I rarely have any issues with it on PC. However just going to hold firm, not auto renew and see if anything changes closer to the launch before committing to a decision. Can't see it becoming more expensive (never know, the USD might crash closer to their elections).

I would come back to the point about them having different prices for different countries - which assumes they're aware of differences in local markets.

The NFL know they have not one, but two tv rights holders in Australia who show all playoff games.

Removing options and flexibility for customers, especially in that Australian context, and charging us for content we don't need or want is just terrible business.

Do they still have the weekly sub option? I can't seem to find it

Not yet known or advertised

I'm against price discrimination for different locations. Just leads to people using software to get around geoblocks. The same price for the same service.

In an ideal world plenty of companies would love to charge their customers what they can pay however it just leads to people legally trying to pay the lowest amount possible.

MLB took over the NHL digital service mid season and absolutely destroyed it.

Yep - we're aware. I've experienced some issues myself on some of the other services they provide Infrastructure for here. The stream for the Copa America semis where the US National Team was getting obliterated by Argentina went down on all platforms halfway thru the first half.

I think that was orchestrated by the US Soccer Federation as a mercy killing.

I will be going to the US in November so I really don't need a full sub

Don't count on it. Our coverage of the NFL with gamepass is actually better than if you are living in the US. Especially if the game you want to watch is 'blacked out' in your region, you will have to either go to a bar that has all the games on, or, you do what I did, and use a VPN going through Australia to see your team play.

I wouldn't be using it in the US because I will be going to bars and to games.

Make sure that you do your homework before going to the bars. Some of them won't show every game.
Have a great time!

From mine and coltstrong 's experience backpacking through the States, Gamepass doesn't work over there. It's a strictly international thing. May have changed since 2011/2012. Would hate for you to waste your money on it.

Exactly, that is why I need it for the weeks up to the 14th November

They have a US Gamepass now, but it's seperate to the international one.

Would work with a VPN though

Yep. I was in Chicago last year and couldn't be bothered catching a cab a half hour out of the city to a bar that would have the Raider game on, so I watched it in my hotel through an Aussie VPN. Worked a treat, no lag or disruption in quality of picture or sound either.
