Google’s YouTube favored to stream exclusive NFL game for first time: Sources

The announcement is likely to come next week as NFL continues to increase its relationships with digital partners.

Google’s YouTube has emerged as the heavy favorite to stream its first exclusive NFL game on Friday of the opening week, sources briefed on the discussions told The Athletic on Thursday.

The deal would represent another landmark agreement between the league and a behemoth digital platform that is redefining how fans watch games.

However, this partnership would be different from the agreements with Amazon and Netflix, as it is anticipated not to be tied to any paid subscription. The game is expected to be available globally for free on YouTube. It would be free in the United States, as well, while subscribers to the cable-like and U.S.-based YouTube TV will be able to access through that service, as well.

The game will be played in São Paulo, Brazil, at Corinthians Arena, with the Los Angeles Chargers already slated to be one of the teams involved. An official announcement will likely occur next week during Advertising Upfronts, when networks and platforms like to make big news. Indeed, the NFL announced Thursday that it will reveal its international games on Tuesday, followed by the full NFL schedule the next day.

When it comes to DEI watching NFL this is potentially a move in the right direction.

But, I don't want to end up in a situation where you need a handful of services to watch all NFL content.

2 or 3 global providers offering a full service so we get competition and choice would be my preference.

Will be interesting to see what happens if they dont get a deal and Disney+ cant air the NFL unless the draft being blacked out was a one off. but people have also said NFL live gets blacked out so seems to be all NFL content currently not on D+

I was shitty when I was hearing Disney Plus obtaining ESPN ads on the radio/podcasts and they would mention NBA and baseball but not football.. I was like why would you not mention the main game? Lol

But it's unlikely, as all streaming—sports, TV, movies, podcasts—seems to be heading in the same direction: splitting everything up so we're forced to pay for multiple providers just to watch the handful of shows, sports, or other content we're invested in.

I had an email offering 10% discount. If you cancel your subscription (auto rollover) you should get the offer. Mine was 290 reduced to 260 though, 320 sounds like you may be on the "Pro" subscription which gives you things like the Prime version of TNF etc

The link in the email to claim the 10% discount did nothing. I reactivated my subs autorenew (it's active til 1/8/25 but I had cancelled autorenew) and then cancelled autorenew again and when I cancelled the autorenew it offered me the discount.

Shit system, not unexpected.

Counting on those juicy auto renewals which many don't have time to pay attention to.

I signed up for the end of a NBA season a few years back when the 76'ers weren't complete ass & the ****ers did the same thing. To their credit though, they did refund the full sub when I kicked off. Good luck ever getting any sort of refund out of CUNZ given they have never turned a profit...

Lucky I read this thread. Went in to look at there prices only to see I was setup for auto renew after paying the couple of dollars to watch the Super Bowl. Had completely forgot and couldn't work out why it was set to auto renew.
