Don Hutson had more receiving yards in a single season 5 teams had total. He also had 4 times as many yards as 2nd place. His 17 touchdowns that season wouldn't be broken until 1984, in a 16 game season.

1942....
_________

Bills-Jets game in September 1974 in Buffalo. The weather was so bad that the winning QB, Joe Ferguson, went 0-2 passing. The losing QB, Joe Namath, was 2-18 for 33 yards and 3 picks, with his first completion of the game coming with less than 2 minutes left.

So the Bills defense had more catches than both offenses combined.

Here’s some highlights....

______

QB Joe Theisman had a season where he led Washington in punt returns and punt return yards
_______

Undrafted Quarterback from small Division 2 program signs as a fourth string practice squad QB on the recommendation of QB Coach on the staff because he went to the same School and had all School records shattered by this undrafted kid. The kid sticks around and all the QB’s in front of him either get hurt, have a bad attitude or just play poorly enough that he gets thrown in during the regular season then lights it up becoming the franchise QB for America’s team for over a decade. That QB Coach was Sean Payton and the Fourth stringer was Tony Romo
________

________

How the hell did Derek Carr and Derek Carrier end up on the same team.

Just wait till the Raiders acquire Derek Carriest next season. League ****ed.
_________

There have been two Dalvins in the history of the NFL and both of them are on the Vikings
_________

Norman Willey of the Philadelphia Eagles once had 17 sacks (supposedly) in a game against the Giants.
__________

Jerome Bettis had five carries for 1 yard and 3 TDs in a game once.

Then Steve spent 4 years playing behind Joe Montana, Bill Walsh and the greatest offensive line to ever play. The Bucs knew he had potential but didn't have the resources to finish his training.

-----

Rich Gannon kind of fits. The Patriots drafted him intent on converting him to a running back. He immediately told them to * off so he got traded pretty quickly - don't think he even played for the Pats. Went to the Vikings, where he sat for a few years and did *-all. He had one good year with them but got benched in each of the two years after, then bounced around a lot.

He eventually ended up on the Raiders in his 11th or 12th year and went OFF. League MVP, 4x Pro-Bowl, passing yards leader for the season (there was big talk then that he might break Marino's single-season record), and took us to a Super Bowl. He was fantastic for us for a few years.

Maybe Josh Rosen is that future story?

For Super Bowl XXIX (29) 49ers vs Chargers, the Niners were favored by Vegas at 18.5 pts. The largest ever spread in Super Bowl history.

For scale, to illustrate how ridiculous an 18.5 pts spread is in the Super Bowl -- last season the 7-1 Chiefs took on the 0-8 Jets coached by Adam Gase in Kansas City and the spread was 20.5.

A real thorough read of the history of the AAFC is fascinating.

One thing i didnt realize, was that when the AAFC was absorbed by the NFL, the AAFC was by far the more popular league, had the richest owners, far vetter crowds, more media attention (given the founder was a media mogul), and more of a true national coast to coast comp that also used a 14 game (double round robin schedule) long before the NFL did.

Also interesting, when absorbed, a lot of old teams folded. The Los Angeles Dons AAFC actually merged with the NFL Los Angeles Rams. Strange you dont hear that ever mentioned anymore, or celebrated.

Also, surprising that thus, the two remaining original AAFC teams, the Browns and 49ers, don't hold some kind of rivalry match these days, to celebrate their histories together.

Also nice looking at the old uniforms of the AAFC teams ...

Article that traces a number of rule changes from the mid 90s onward that helped create an era of prolific passing stats. How all the old time QBs unfortunately fade into insignificance statistically due to that. However, theres still a stat equalizes QB performance across the eras....yards per attempt....
