It looks like Macleod’s policy or playing homegrown kids for peanuts has gone out the window with the departure of Rambo.

Can’t blame them after falling at the final hurdle the last 3 times but it will certainly put a few noses out of joint I would think.

A few youngsters and older ones even might be putting their hands out for a few more pennies I would imagine.

Like Macleod has had a policy in place for a long time. Maybe their juniors were good enough to play senior footy and were not so greedy . I doubt anyone would get a nose out of joint in return for premiership success......

That is the thing, they aren’t guaranteed a premiership as we know too well.

They are however guaranteed a bigger spending bill this year, and definitely next year as their loyal kids now know they have the ability to pay big $$.

The cat is out of the bag, and now they will have to pay market price for their own kids or face losing them in the future I imagine.

They have done an amazing job retraining all of their homegrown talent who are the envy of every club in Melbourne I would suspect.

It was good while it lasted I think....

Will be interesting to see who has the best list without all there VFL players playing and how many games each team will get out of them. Macleod, West, Bundoora and North Heidelberg have a good chunk at that level, so will be interesting to see!

The Boro have the best list by far! The above mentioned teams will have a few headaches throughout the season when VFL blokes come up and down, but Greensy don't seem to have that problem at all. It's hard to knock back a few VFL boys playing for your club but I know I'd much rather have consistent full timers than a revolving door of VFL talent in my team. It's discouraging for a player to be dropped for someone coming into the club that doesn't really train or is involved as much as they are. On paper a few times over the past couple of years the Cougars looked unstoppable with their VFL inclusions, but it doesn't guarantee success by any means.

I wouldnt say they have the best list by far. But agree they should be top 3. Who else have they picked up besides Fennell and Bell?

I just think that they (we) have lacked a little bit of experience at the point my end. Most of the top up players for 2019 have to nominate a club if playing VFL and it’s just happened that all have relationships with coaches and current players. I like what they (we) are doing. A lot of the colts will get good experience through the reserves and be ready for seniors in a couple of years. Dornauff is a travelling wilbury, who knows if it will last beyond a year. On another note, glad to see Jake Chiminello back after a year at WestH. He was playing good consistent footy in the seniors in 2017 so I would expect him to grab his opportunity. Will be an interesting year, glad I’m not working out the financials !

At a Club that clearly uses a fair few juniors (just look at the points system over the past few years) then goes and grabs some top ups to try and get success can not be blamed for trying. Macleod have always been more local than not and I doubt any Club, especially in Div 1, has not searched out for a few players to keep them up and firing for another year. It always amazes me that people get on here and have a crack at Clubs that do that.

Macleod clearly looking to go that one step further, a few more signings coming, one not from the NFNL but has a decent CV for a young lad.

There is also a big injection of 16 Juniors (Colts) transferring from the Junior Club into the Senior Club, but that seems to get overlooked as everyone focuses on the new recruits. The club is in a healthy position with players, makes me wonder how clubs like Reservoir struggle with numbers. Basically comes down to relationships and club management.

Area demographic no doubt, volunteer support & those volunteers with the skill set to build on relationships whether that be with direct juniors or other junior affiliated clubs.

I was told today that the league has decided not to print a weekly footy record this year.

Whilst I know a small group of fans will miss it I know Clubs will not miss being charged for a box of records that they cannot sell (and cannot return)

Its online (although dunno who is looking at that)

Days of people coming and PAYING for a record a gone, people have smart phones so they can follow live scores and check numbers of players etc. Maybe if they want it, get sponsors to supply it for free.

They weren't selling enough and the league was paying more money making them, then receiving money from them. All articles are shared on Facebook and twitter as well as appearing on the NFNL website.

Excellent work by the league to move with the times. Being on a committee who were forced to pay for records no one wanted was frustrating over the years.

Im hearing from a couple of boys from West that Bundoora have picked up Connelan, who was on St.kildas list last year? apparently a jet and will play a fair few games with them. Anyone confirm or just a porky pie?

Matty Dennis just won another comp medal up in the NT. Will go down as one of, if not the best we have seen at local level when he gives it away.

100% the most accurate thing posted. Add to his football ability he is a genuinely great bloke as well, amazed at times how he never made it higher.

Throwing out my early ladder predicition:

1. Macleod
2. Greensborough
3. West Preston
4. North Heidelberg
5. Bundoora
-----------------------------
6. Heidelberg
7. Northcote Park
8. Montmorency
9. Lower Plenty
10. Hurstbridge

Good luck to all involved.
