Young blokes left to play w mates, wasn’t any selection reason. Don’t know about ruckman, probably couldn’t match the coin.
Heard the same.

Keen to see how Mont go once back on their home deck, although a smaller ground may be challenging for their gameplay.

Bergs won last years finals by 80+ both games. Bundy loaded up and lost 2 GFs in a row over 22/23. I don't know if the current Mont coach could be compared to the prior one, are we expecting them to be the only challenge?

Bergs had Herbert last year who is a gun (although moved on), Gilmore back, Wilson back full time. It's not like they've gone backwards.

They just put numbers behind the footy and make it’s a grind. It’s not pretty to watch at all. But teams are struggling to score.
That to me this is just a lack of understanding of current football styles and trends. No doubt they are very well drilled defensively and while in D2 there offense was good enough to still score not so much so far in D1.

No one is challenging Bergs, they haven’t got out of second gear and tempo the play to seemingly manage the margin. Mont simply need to take risks and play more direct. Not sure it’s a coaching issue, may be on field leaders? I suspect they will figure it out, when they went direct on the weekend and moved quickly they looked good. I would have them as 4th or 5th best in it as they fight for the Prelim Final Premiership.

I noticed that the NFNL site has not been reporting on the coaches MVP voting..and oversight or is there no coaches mvp this season.

All credit to them. Teams struggled to score against them in Div 2 and they have brought that into Div 1. A very well drilled unit. It may not be the prettiest of footy, but it’s getting the job done

Diamond Creek are playing the same style they have played since AT took over. This style whilst defensive, restricts opposition from scoring freely. Bundoora played a similar defensive style and therefore only 9 goals were scored. It was not a great spectacle but four points are more important for a recently promoted team than general ascetics. They are a serious finals contender and anyone who saw last year’s Division 2 grand final could see they are a serious football team. Problem remains that Heidelberg look like they won’t lose a game and the competition are playing for second. This is a blight on the competition, Ivanhoe is a similar proposition in Division 3. Equalisation is not a priority for the NFNL.

It’s wild to think anybody would be knocking DC for having a stingy defence. They have been the number 1 defence for the last few seasons in Div 2 while also being top 2 for offence. To suggest they only put numbers behind the ball shows a real lack of modern football IQ. 10 points on the board. Somebody will have to win 3 games minimum to send them back down.

Creek shouldn’t even be in the relegation conversation from what I’ve seen.

They should have their eyes firmly on a finals appearance.

Scrappy game but they won’t care, as someone else said, 4 points are 4 points.

As for Bundoora, they are a ruckman and another key forward away from being a very good side.

Heidelberg by plenty, it’s not even a question of whether they’ve gotten better, the second best side (whoever that is) is further away than ever. The Bundoora team that lost b2b GF to them a few years back would beat every other side in the comp by 15 goals this year. That says enough.

Well said , It looks like Heidelberg have lost more than they’ve gained this season and playing on 30 odd points . Heidelberg aren’t the problem here the rest of the competition need to lift.

Yep Creek are a good side. Will be in Div 1 for the foreseeable future, that’s why round 1 was no shock to me and beyond so far. Call me crazy, but are they one that could restrict Heidelberg the most? Can’t see them winning, but would be intrigued to see how the structure goes against the might.

To beat Heidelberg more broadly it would need to turn into an arms race IMO. Clubs would need more points + salary to get near them, they won’t lose and something dramatic would have to happen. Even Saturday missing guys like Sier, Honey, Kearns (probably a few more) they win comfortably without any questions. Shudder to think them at full strength again.

They’ve already done enough to avoid relegation potetially.

West Preston look like they are in the box seat
