Great write up again - good luck to both teams, weather looks ok so we should get a good game of footy.Division 2 grand final preview
The 2 teams most thought would make the grand final at the beginning of the season clash to see who is promoted to Division 1 in 2026.
Season results:
Round 1 Mac 10-6-66 DC 16-11-107
Round 10 DC 8-12-60 Mac 10-9-69
Semi final DC 11-18-84 Mac 7-6-48
Diamond Creek goalkickers
Bronson Hill - 39
Kade Garraway - 31 (great first season straight out of Under 19's)
Ben Major - 24
DC Times in best
Jacob Booth -10/18 games
Taj Logan - 10/17
Ewan McPherson - 9/13
Macleod leading goalkickers
Darcy Barden - 106
MacKenzie Hogg - 33
Jordan Corelli - 21
Macleod times in best
Kurt Manuel 15/21 games
Darcy Barden 12/21.
Kobe Brandt 10/17
Diamond Creek 107 points for 43 points against average across season
Macleod 103 points for 61 points against average across season.
Defensively Diamond Creek have been unbelievable, no team has kicked over 90 points against them with Lower Plenty (87) and Panton Hill (86) highest scores kicked against them.
They have kept opposition 14 out of 19 games below 50 points which is remarkable
Macleod have had 100+ points kicked against them twice, Diamond Creek in round 1 and Whittlesea a few weeks back in their come from behind finals win.
They have kept teams below 50 points in 7 of 21 games played.
Can Diamond Creek break the grand final hoodoo, they have lost their last 3 grand finals in 2017, 2023 and 2024, it's been 20 years since they last tasted senior premiership success winning the 2005 flag and spending 3 seasons in Division 1 before being relegated back to Division to in 2009.
They have their reserves team playing in grand final and their under 19's playing in a Division 1 preliminary final on Sunday so the club is well placed to go to Division 1
Macleod are looking to bounce straight back into Division 1 after being there from 2009-2024 where they had premiership success and grand final heartbreak.
Do they have the firepower to help Darcy Barden kicked a winning score. They have kicked 66,69 and 48 in the 3 games against Macleod this season, can Michael Hurley be the difference maker for them.
Weather tomorrow is looking good, slighr chance of a shower in morning but hopefully light winds which will make for scoring opportunities at both ends of the ground.
Diamond Creek was my pre-season tip and nothing has changed my opinion. The Creekers to move back into Division 1 for the first time since 2008
Diamond Creek by 33 points
Best on ground: Dale Marshall
Best of luck to both teams

If Macleod do end up winning tomorrow, what are the chances of them staying up at all in 2026? With their reserves being third, and their 19s being near bottom of division 2, would this help them remain any chance of staying up against the likes of eltham, bundoora or even west preston?
Doona2 thanks mate. Try to bring some positive content especially around grand finals.
lovelocalfooty11 I agree re bottom six players.Great write up as always Thunder1
Diamond Creek for mine as well - they are well overdue and start as firm favourites. I think their bottom 6 outshines Macleod by a fair margin.
DC by 56 points and Marshall best on ground. Reserves to salute as well to complete the double.
Good luck to both sides.
Bundooras 2s wouldn’t beat a d3 reserves side and their 19s are in D3 and they stayed up.If Macleod do end up winning tomorrow, what are the chances of them staying up at all in 2026? To be fair, i reckon their 19s would've pushed for finals in division two. Have a decently strong team as it seems. Just couldn't get past Kilmore.Bundooras 2s wouldn’t beat a d3 reserves side and their 19s are in D3 and they stayed up.
Mac no chance diamo by 10 goalsHogg not back in.
Surely you bring any player dropped for a GF into the selection room.I have it on good authority that Ryder Jones found out he was dropped last night at dinner without any prior knowledge. There's hard luck stories every year but I would have thought this one could have been handled better/earlier in the week. Poor kid
Game over already.Diamo flying
Absolute training drill. Cannot believe how bad Macleod were. Did not fire a shot nor have even a 2 minute period of decent football.I think Diamond Creek win by 50+ to much talent. Their record in GFs isn’t great so who knows, with Barden and Hurley you're always a chance
