What a joke by Mernda. They have recruited all these players yet holding one player to ransom who clearly doesn’t want to be there. They should give him their best wishes and move on. Also hearing some current players who haven’t signed yet aren’t impressed with how they have gone about recruiting. Place is a shambles and social media is portraying a different side to it all.
Surprise surprise , hope it hasnt got Jacana written all over it ....

Do you expect any different, recruited a bogan coach who probably just wants another flag to his name, doesn't matter how it's done.

Mernda kicked off their pre-season last night with 72 blokes hitting the track. What other clubs have started pre-season and how are numbers?
Wondering how they have retained most of the list, recruited as they have from an EDFL division with a much higher cap and players who wouldnt come cheap to move across and are fitting $80k into 18 games...

No under 19s in 2017, built up a strong pathway in 2018 and 2019 for their 19s to turn into quality senior players with some good glimpses throughout the year only to ruin that and go on a recruiting spree for 2020, either the 19s will still be blooded through and hang around which will mean recruits will get pissed off if they are playing reserves or their 19s will leave if they then lose opportunity for senior football

Spot on, it's a very short sighted plan. The appeal of success getting in the way of long term survival.

Surely if these good u19's can take the big step up to senior footy they will be playing senior footy ? And not getting a game because there is no one else.
Having to work for a spot in the one's is the best outcome for the team.
Just because you are a good player in the under age group doesn't always translate to being good against open age players.
A mix of youth and experience is the way too go.

And you think all these recruits on decent contracts will be happy playing 2s if a U19s take their spots? Either way if they dont win it next year expect an exodus of some sort.

No faith in their system and it is a smart move by Mernda to keep all these 19s contracted to them to to stop them from leaving otherwise im sure a few rounds in and they would want to

Again contracts for players are irrelevant especially if the are Under 19'S. If they dont wish to play there and want to play higher level you cant stop them.

How many of these Under 19's are walk up starters for seniors? It was a division 2 competition and they were no standouts, or was there not much depth?
