Considering the Crows have three kids coming through in 2019 and 2020 that could well go in the first round, I dont know why they would agree with this.

Unless the Northern states lose access to their academies in this same way, it should never ge agreed to.
Is put forward by your club , nothing to do with Northern States .

And clubs believe that the AFL is seriously looking at adopting a proposal – put forward by West Coast, with the backing of Fremantle and the SA clubs

It wasnt put forward by the Vic clubs either, but they will have to fall into line.

Yeah giving powerclubs in states that produce a huge amount of indigenous talent priority access to all indigenous players is a great idea.
Your not reading it correctly. The same BS argument that kids in Qld and NSW wouldnt play AFL unless their was the academics is the same one used for indigenous kids in SA and WA. 70% of them drop out of playing AFL, these academies would help them stay in.

Yeah that’s great but looks at all the gun indigenous players that have come from WA and SA, add the 70% and don’t you see the ridiculous advantage it would give those clubs?

Now compare it to all the guns the Gold Coast academy has produced

So to even the playing field they don’t get the same deal as other academies.

Cannot see how that doesn’t make sense

But using Northern teams logic, if we turn those indigenous kids into AFL players it means that it increases the talent pool for everyone. Hey, we cant draft all these kids we will be producing....

You’re absolutely clueless. There’s clearly zero point discussing this with you.

I think his point is, if the SA and WA clubs are busy matching bids on their Aboriginal academy kids, the highly ranked non Aboriginal kids that they would have drafted instead now end up being available to the other teams. I understand his logic, and it has merit to an extent.

Correct. The Northern academy logic was that if they produce more players from NSW and Qld it would leave more players from SA, WA and Vic in the draft pool for us to take.

You can't simultaneously approve of the northern academies and disapprove of indigenous ones if there is indeed a problem with retaining those kids in AFL.

I don’t have an issue with them as they currently are.

I don't see a difference between a northern academy trying to increase participation of ALL players or an NGA one doing the same with ALL indigenous players.

Currently it is just tiny zones so the vast majority of kids are missed. No reason they should be.

Ok then give Brisbane those areas. If it’s all about retaining these guys.

Nope, makes sense to let the SA and WA clubs do it since you know, that is where the players are.

Hypocritical bull****. Either both are fine or neither are.

Except that it would give the SA and WA clubs a huge advantage which is why West Coast have suggested not being able to to bid on players taken in the top 30.

That isn't the problem, the problem is the discount that any club has on their academy. If clubs actually had to pay the full price then it wouldn't be so unbalanced. The benefit of the academies for the club is first dibs, they shouldn't also get the players cheap. If they changed that then I doubt anyone would have a problem with any academy.

Sydney would be spewing having to cough up more than late picks for top 3 talents though.

Oh please.
Total population of Aboriginals in SA = 34,000
Total population of Aboriginals in WA = 76,000
Total population of Aboriginals in Qld = 186,000
Total population of Aboriginals in NSW = 216,000

Not only do you have more Aboriginals than either SA or WA, but vastly more total population as well.
Cry me a river.

I feel like I am reading a different article to what is being discussed here. Currently the NGA catchment areas are remote communities, WCE with the backing of Freo and SA clubs want the whole state to be included in the NGA with the trade off being if a kid is good enough to be drafted in the top 25-30 then he goes to whichever club takes him.

But why take away the incentive to develop them? If they’re going to be top 25 players the club deserves priority access same as the northern clubs and Vic clubs.

Basically the theory of the OP seems to be “this negatively impacts on my club in the short term so they can GAGF” it’s just so myopic.

The whole point of the NGA’s is to increase the talent pool and you have indigenous elders telling you the current system isn’t working. I don’t get why anyone would be opposed to it from the 4 clubs it impacts?

A scenario for you. Kid x spends 4 years in the Adelaide system as an NGA then gets drafted by Carlton do you really think he’ll last in their system? He’ll be back at the Crows after his first contract. Don’t be fooled there’s a reason your clubs are keen and I’m tipping they’re armed with a lot more info than us...

It negatively impacts because it also includes multicultural kids that clubs like Adelaide have already been developing.
I dont agree with your Carlton example, every afl club will look after elite talent.

You nailed it. Won't happen.

The good thing about academies being given to clubs is that they will be rife for abuse and rorting and will inevitably result in perks being removed from the respective clubs.
