Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
An Adelaide Board Father SonThey are in Czechoslovakia together, making babies...
It's simple to put a "same round or within X picks" rule - I like that you can't use multiple crappy later picks though fill it out. Points into deficit for the round the next year is a interesting idea. What if the F/S bid comes in at pick 18 - the last pick in the 1st round? How is a club supposed to match under those conditions, if the matching pick needs to come from the same round?
I agree that clubs shouldn't be able to use picks 30+ after the bid (e.g. pick 31+ to match a bid for pick 1), maybe even 20+ after the bid, but restricting bid matches to picks in the same round has consequences which you don't appear to have thought through.
I want the best SA players to play for us, or to go interstate to a terrible team so they want to be traded to us.I am happy to see an SA kid stay at home. In the AFL today, NSW and Qld kids are a lock to play in their home state.
Victorian kids have a 55% chance to stay at home and play football.
SA and WA kids carry the burden of relocation with only a 11% chance of getting a chance to stay home and play football.
Anytime that can be reversed im all for it.

You can by using the website playhq which covers almost all AFL levels played. Is there any way of getting an updated list of the next 3 years of potential father sons. Could it be put as a banner.
Jack Rutten
Eddie Goodwin
Nick Riccuito
Caleb Tregenza
Mitch Stevens (his brother as well)
Cannot remember any others
I also know it would be difficult but a list of the NGA's that are eligible to us, not just in the NGA academy.
Would be good to be able to potentially follow their u18 years to see how it is going.
Interesting, because I saw him a few weeks ago at a club function and he looked like he had lived a tough life. Those around him also seemed of somewhat questionable character.Would love to see a Tregenza son at the crows. Such a humble, quality guy.
People underestimate how unfair this is. Imagine who Brisbane would have got instead of the Ashcrofts, if they had to take picks in the late teens instead, as per their ladder position. Now compare those players likely output to the Ashcrofts’, over 500 odd games. It’s a huuge, unearned, unfair advantage. The issue with Father sons are those elite top 5 draft pick types going to top 4 clubs.
Brisbane will likely stay in the top 8 for longer because they got pure elite talent without having to drop down to the bottom of the ladder.
luck of the draw thoughThe issue with Father sons are those elite top 5 draft pick types going to top 4 clubs.

Seems to have dropped out of Glenelg's elite junior pathway too after showing a bit at U16's level.Interesting, because I saw him a few weeks ago at a club function and he looked like he had lived a tough life. Those around him also seemed of somewhat questionable character.
Would likely just see these kids requesting a trade back to their fathers club to play there. Not all thought. Not only is it an unfair advantage to eg Brisbane, it takes away the attempted equalization measures of the draft, the hope of getting better by having access to the best talent. Absolute necessity in such a closed pool to have any hope of a rise up the ladder.
why. Because he didn’t own a pony when he was a child?Interesting, because I saw him a few weeks ago at a club function and he looked like he had lived a tough life. Those around him also seemed of somewhat questionable character.
So any kid with indigenous heritage now qualifies as an NGA prospect, no matter where they grew up?A lot of folk have been, myself included, wondered about the zoning for indigenous players in metro areas
This article seems to explain it all a little more. Remember this is 6 years old
Also remember that when this was introduced, the AFL took away any biding rights to all the clubs for their NGA players prior to pick 40.
That is no longer the case. The AFL relaxed the rule to pick 20 and has now removed it altogether

NGA tweak to give SA, WA clubs greater indigenous access
Four clubs could get their wish for more access to indigenous players in metropolitan areas under Academy ruleswww.afl.com.au
Yes. The zoning still applies to all the clubs (SA & WA)So any kid with indigenous heritage now qualifies as an NGA prospect, no matter where they grew up?
It has to be within 5 picks, ie if the F/S is pick 1 the club has to use pick 5 or higher to match, they can trade up to get it if they want too, and probably pay a king's ransom to do so, there by helping teams in the process. Perhaps bottom 4 clubs can then strike a deal to get 3 first's that would help their rebuild.Would likely just see these kids requesting a trade back to their fathers club to play there. I do like the history etc of father / sons. We dont want to take tradition out of the game completely. I just think a fair price has to be paid. do away with the discount, just make it so the club has to use a pick in that round. If they dont have a pick it carries over to the following year.
I.e Brisbane would have to give up 1st round pick. if they gave it away, it carries over to next draft. if they have another father / son in first round then too bad, they miss that player.
it would also stop the rounds pushing out to 20-25 as the club getting the pick gives up that rounds pick. Would work for NGA. Also limits the team to only getting one 1 st rounder and would have stopped the gold coast getting 4 1st rounders two years ago.
What about the team that bids on the player, gets that teams first pick as well.It has to be within 5 picks, ie if the F/S is pick 1 the club has to use pick 5 or higher to match, they can trade up to get it if they want too, and probably pay a king's ransom to do so, there by helping teams in the process. Perhaps bottom 4 clubs can then strike a deal to get 3 first's that would help their rebuild.
I've never seen that last part confirmed by the AFL.Yes. The zoning still applies to all the clubs (SA & WA)
And the kids must be included under the AFL rules in the NGA programs for a minimum specified amount of time.
Edit: previously the city kids could be included in the programs, the clubs just didn't have the rights to match bids in the draft. That has changed and no one really noticed
