Three months since my last post in this thread and I'm still playing the game! Quite simply I think it's one of the best games I have ever played on any platform. I love it.

The first season I finished with the third or fourth record in the NHL, but I was playing on the top difficulty level and still getting a handle for the game!

The second season I only just missed the playoffs by a handful of games.

The third season I won about 10 of my final 12 games to top the Western Conference. I beat the Ducks in 5 exciting games, then swept the Oilers and came from behind to beat the Canucks in six of seven for the conference title.

The Stanley Cup Finals against Ottawa were horrible. I lost the first three games by a single goal. They were all so closely fought too. I won the next two, but was then trounced in game six to end my run to the title.

In season four I'm a few points off leading the west again around the half-way mark. Jordan Staal has scored 35 of my goals as my #1 center - he's an absolute machine!! Ribiero and RIchards have about 15-20 each and Morrow, Wolski and Lehtinen are around 10-12 a piece.

My goaltending has been a head scratcher. I gave Turco a four year extension, but he is inconsistent. He has an amazing SIX shutouts so far (the next best goalie has 1), but his overall save percentage is horrendous. The difference between his best and his worst is staggering, so I often play Justin Pogge (who I signed from waivers in season three) for extended periods of time.

Grest game!!!!

That post alone has got me thinking about buying this game. I was keen on NFL but now i'm not so sure. Does anyone have either?? Or wanna give an opinion on what i should get? Does NFL have BAP mode???

I'm the same, have heard nothing but great things, but just don't know if I want to get it, the last hockey title I played was Wayne Gretzky's, now THAT was awesome!
haha was also in love with wayne gretzkys hockey games, 99 was such a great year for sports games. AFL 99, shane warn cricket 99, wayne gretzky hockey 99, all pwned.

After reading this thread i am definately buying this game.

So true, owned all three of those and played SWC and Wayne Gretzy's so much with mates, I remember coming home from school nearly everyday and going to my mates who was down the street to play it, we loved getting into fights, was one of the best elements in any sports game EVER!

Nice the offside rule is much easier and not as complicated as the football offside..

If someone can tell me how online is, i'll buy it tommorow!!!

Because it's EA i wanna know how much it lags ;)

Better not be worse than Fifa.

I mentioned the offside rule because it is the only rule I could think of that would catch out a new comer in the game a lot.

Online I didn't have any lag when I played it, however I was on 50mb/s cable and in the UK. So don't go on my experience if you are in Australia.

I hate NHL 09.. mainly cause I use it on the PC, so its just NHL 08 with a small facelift. The Be A Pro puts you on the first line straight away, whats the point?

The Playstation 3 (so would assume 360 as well) version, you have to work your way up through the ranks. You start in the AHL (for example, I am a Devils fan so I started with the Lowell Devils) on the 4th line if you play offense, and then work your way up to get a call up to the NHL where again you start on the 4th line.

your bothj kind off right, even though you are posted on the lower lines and have to work up to line one, you are on the ice for the first face off. Doesn't make sense.

Having said that still a very good game, I went a defensive player and thought I would not get a call up for the NHL because I wouldn't score much however because I am a hittng and checking machine I got the nod.

That is what annoys me about the EA Sports Be a Pro. Too easy really. Why start on the ice when you are 4th line?? Make it tough to get on and it's more enjoyable.

Just like FIFA... always start and never get subbed off.

PES got it absolutely spot on...

Yeah, it's something that turns me off the Be A Pro modes, however I still play them more than any other.

I hope next year they incorporate that better. However I can understand why they have set it up this way, to most people they just want to play and be on the ice all the time. The realism doesn't factor into it. Maybe next year we can see a realism meter in the options, which would allow you to make it really realistic (including rules, difficulty, time on ice depending on your rank/line). That way it can appeal to both types of user.
