just got nhl 2002 and wanted to see how the game works so i simmed through a whole season, did the rookie draft allright, but got to the free agent signing and i dont know what to do.

theres three things on the left you can magnet your selections too but then how do you select them.

it says "sign free agents" down the bottom but when i click it comes up and all my selections have been signed like 2 seconds after going into the screen.

why does it happen so quick?? how do i counter this??

also, just another question in the draft, how come goalies are never picked up. i picked up a goalie with a rating of 88 (the best skater rating for the whole draft was 75 and at the time i picked him up it was about 70) in the second round of the draft

and why are there only 2 draft rounds?? in the real thing there is like 8 or something.

Overall its a good game which just misses a few things that could easily be added.

(I don't actually know how it works, this is just how I interpret it)

The three boxes are for your first, second, and third most wanted players in that round of signings. The smiley face next to them indicates how utterly delighted or how unmoved they are that you've shown an interest in them (lesser players will be happy, stars will generally alwaysbe grumpy, etc). Basically, you pick your three targets and then 'sign free agents'.

At this point, every other team has also selected its three targets (you can scroll through these on left of screen?)...and magically NHL2002 then calculates which team every player decided to go to, based I assume on stuff like overall team rating, the line they are like to slot into, and whether they were 1/2/3 on your wishlist.

Process repeats until you are sick of trying to sign up hacks and stubborn bastards...so there can be several rounds as need be.

Usually in NHL 2002 the teams already have 3 goalies and usually only get rid of them when they retire or are traded, thats usualyl why there are often good goalies left in the draft.
The reason why there are only 2 draft rounds would be because the game doesn't have minor league teams which a lot of the draft picks are sent back to play in anyway till their ready.

Cos you've probably got a good team already, and no one likes competing for attention ;)

Hourn, that has a lot to do with Pittsburgh being a non hockey town. And also minorly on the postion you finished the previous season as to whether they want to go to you or not.

Don't let that stop you though, I've won 4 Stanley Cups in a row now with the Pens:D
At the moment every free agent is happy to come to me, although don't always sign them:(

is there any salaries or salary cap on NHL 2002

there doesn't seem to be, which i think is a big minus, beause it works really work on the NFL Madden games.

Theres no salary cap in the NHL and theres no salaries in the NHL series by EA. Sega's NHL 2k3 does have salries in the game if I remember correctly. Will be picking that up as soon as I can, more realistic than EA's.
