Have rented and played 07 on the 360 and it's not to bad. Must say though the skill stick needs to be in every hockey game from now on, it is great.
Scored a great goal with Crosby on the breakaway agains the Islanders, moved to his left with the stick then to the backhand and in to beat Depietro to go 1 up. Lost 2-1 though :(
Have won about 3 out of 40 odd faceoffs.
So I'm not the only one having trouble with faceoffs! I can't win them either and it doesn't actually say in the book how to win them. I've gone to controller mashing, which is just as successful as anything else I've tried.

The skill stick is AWESOME. I am really used to it now.

There's still a few game play things that really bug me though. Too often my defenders aren't inside the blue line when I've got the puck in the attacking zone so when I pass to point it ends up being an offside play. I also find that I usually out hit the opposition about 10-1. My record was 62-2 in one game. It's insane that it's so easy to hit and that in turn they can't lay a check on me.

Those are the only major gripes I have about the game but I have no doubt that 2k7 will be better once again.

Nah, I haven't set Xbox Live up yet. Will have to get onto that actually.

Feel like bumping threads today...

Bought 2k7 the other day and I'm glad I made the switch. The goalies on 06 were just frustrating the hell out of me.
Whilst the graphics on 2k7 aren't great (well, let's be honest here, they're ****house), the gameplay makes up for any visual faults. Half of the players are unrecognisable. Colby armstrong, for example has a grey goatee...nuff said.
I can't say I dislike anything else about it. Love the fact that players can be intimidated, love it how you can get the CPU to put physical pressure off the puck on one of your opponents, love the on-the-fly strategic changes (in offense you can order the team to crash the net, screen the goalie, call for help and something else; on D you can tell them to collapse, clear the front of the net, call for help, and send a forward out to get ready for the outlet pass), love the way you can change your offense and defensive lines seperately. Also, the fighting is winnable. For some reason, I found 06's fighting really hard, and I had the settings down a fair way (to about 30). Most of all, I love the fact that you can have a good, low-scoring game where your goalie doesn't flop around like the proverbial fish out of water.
This game, with EA's graphics would be the best game ever invented. Hopefully one day, EA will learn how to do gameplay, and 2K will learn how to do graphics. Until then, we've gotta prioritize.

Funnily enough, I bought 2k7 two weeks back.

Haven't played it much, though, due to work and such. But I enjoy the gameplay much more than 07. Seems a bit more realistic... and the AI actually take faceoffs!

Have this on PC.. its ok, disappointed there aren't more features to Dynasty like NFL. Also, I win too easy even on difficult, plus even with the fastest player and speed boost I'm still slower than a fat load defenseman!

i have always been a ea guy, but ea havent bought out a hockey game on the PS3, so i needed to get 2k7

graphics are OK, no spin move though, which was one of my favourites. deeking is pretty hard, havent got it down properly yet. too easy to hit, and you really need to keep an eye on who you are shooting with, which i like, coz with EA, everything from everyone seemed to go in at one stage or another.

General rule of thumb is that EA is more gimmicky and has better graphics so is better for casual hockey fans/people who just want a hockey game. I prefer 2k because it's generally considered to be more of a hockey players game - players are smarter off the puck etc. Graphics aren't as sharp though.

EA are pretty good at doing the fun games with not as much substance, which I'd suggest is more what you're looking for. If you hate emo/skate punk then avoid EA like the plague though. It's all they put on their soundtracks.

2k7 definitely. Made the switch (finally) this year, and I'm loving it.

Sure, a lot can be worked on (apparently the XBOX 360 version is terrific, though), but if you want an actual hockey game that gets the AI almost perfect, go with it.

Not exactly true - yes there is a fair bit but there is also some good rock on there. - I discovered Bloc Party from EA.

2k is by far the better hockey game. Going from EA to 2k is hard at first because the graphics are miles apart, but then you realise that the gameplay is just so much better that the graphics hardly matter.

Just so we're clear I much, much, much prefer 2k. But is that because it's a hockey fans game? I imagine that EA would suffice for the casual fan. 2k is far superior and I've always said that.

I made the switch to 2k back at NHL 2k3. Just picked up NHL 07 this week & it's the first EA Hockey game I've played since 01. To say I'm underwhelmed by it is an understatement. I just can't score and the CPU scores on me OFTEN and I just find the controls so limited. I'll have to get 2k7. Is it more polished that 2k6? For arcade hockey I can't go past NHL Hitz Pro from a few years ago. In 2 player mode that game is a riot.
