The time has come. People are still in denial about our long rebuild ahead. Lets get the ball rolling and eliminate any sense of hope out there.

Nic Nat is 31 turning 32 next year as a Ruckman. Ironically Ruckmans tend to have a longer self life with Sandi playing until 35. But let assume these factors
  1. He from the west and west player tend to age faster
  2. He relies on speed and agility and leap all which decays with age
  3. He falls off the face of the earth next year in a shuey like situation with injuries
  4. Retires 2022 (next year)

So what's the go did we screw up and why hasn't there been a ****ing plan?

I think ruckman are overrated BUT Nic is different. I don't rate Grundy or Gawn because I've fully experienced Nic tap work and expect that from every single ruckman from centre bounce.

The question is there any ruckman that can do Nic delicate ruck taps?

Can Luke Jackson do if so lets go after him hard. Because going from Cox, Nic, Williams is seriously disheartening although I think ruckmans are overrated.

Apologise for the contradictions so I highlighted key points

Well we've got the nic nat is best player in the AFL thread so only fair we have a retire nic nat thread as well I guess.
Age is the factor. We must not be in denial unless Nic is superhuman which is still denial but you never know

I'll be honest I don't want to watch an AFL that has no NN playing.

He's a joy to watch and it's easier to live in denial and assume he will play forever.

By the title, I thought the AFLW was about receive an unbeatable behemoth Ruck.

Williams is 2 years away from being a genuine Ruck/Forward at AFL level and as long as he's developed right Jamieson as his understudy Ruck who eventually overtakes him as a Ruckman are already on the list with 1 likely playing significantly from next year. If Nicnat plays most of next season and half of the season after then we will have timed it Perfectly.

What we do Need is another Key defender on the list. Considering it's likely he'll need 4 years before being able to take a key role this is the draft year if there is one there at our picks. Hoping Rhett Bazzo is available for one of our second rounders.

Key forwards aren't such a huge Issue particularly if Williams can tidy up his goal kicking even a bit as Ryan can always play as a leading forward and will likely do that as he goes past his peak. Assuming darling is gone 4 years from now Allen, Waterman, Williams, Ryan is plenty of marking power.

Don't we have two young rucks on the list already?

Maybe the problem is the lack of a quality experienced backup which we had with Hickey, but nobody would want to spend two years of their prime plodding around in the WAFL waiting for Nic to retire.

Methinks Vardy (should be) goneski at years end.

Leaves us with Nic Nat and two youngsters still learning their trade.

Need another, possibly middle ager from WAFL, SANFL or VFL, as plug and play stop gap measure while youngsters continue their development.

Oh, dear. This is what I mean by extreme views. There is one thing to be overly obsessed with NN to also going the other way and say he is no good at all need to think about moving him. Please try to avoid extreme views as much as you can. NN is an exceptional player and can contribute to the team long enough until we get some games into our young ruck. The criticism on him is through different lense not the required AFL benchmark which he has been above it for most of his career.

Agree. I reckon his retirement game will be the first and only time I ever get truly emotional about a player retiring.
