Collingwood president Eddie McGuire last week threatened to withdraw its presence from the public-holiday cash cow

Bye. Given the amount of once a year bandwagoners who show up for this fixture (on both) sides as long as we got Richmond, Carlton or Essendon instead we'd still get 60k.

Not that they'd be as generous as to let us have it at home every year mind you but surely we're working towards the point where we don't have to be going around to arseholes like this for a handout.

Considering where both our clubs are at, and some of our recent clashes, if we started playing Richmond on QB starting next year it could lead to a pretty good rivalry :thumbsu: im sure tigers fans would agree.

Well said. Reading Melbourne fans thoughts here it seems we are happy to split the gate or something similar. There's no such thing as free money, and they are at the point of using the fixture as blackmail. Beyond that if it's still a chore for Collingwood there are plenty of sides who would jump at the chance to replace them.

True.

Also only 5 of our 11 home games this year are against Victorian teams (last year just 4). If that improves to 6 or 7 that will more than make up any slack on our bottom line. Of course the AFL will know this and go the other way.

@YouDon'tKNowJack - Me too! :D Exciting huh!

I think that a QB clash between Melbourne and Richmond is a great Idea! Melbourne Vs Richmond Games have always been good ones - even when we've been smashed - the game play is just really ferocious.

QB @ the G will always Be! Couldn't have it anywhere else - It's a draw card.

I loved how the article was basically us saying Bye Bye to the pies and their BS and letting the people know that melbourne are here to rumble. About time!

I'd be all for this - the only downside is we are not upgrading the supporter base showing up on the day. Tiger fans are just as feral and uneducated about the game as Collingwood fans are.

True... in fact they might seem more feral as they actually want to beat us when we play them. Fair to say it's all a bit blase for the Collingwood "tired-of-a-blockbuster-every-week" Magpies.
