I find it's hilarious that a Norf supporter is on here carrying on so salty because Blakey is coming to the swans. Exactly what I'd hoped to find on the thread :p

As the saying goes s**t happens. Suck it up buttercup.

If Blakey has enough injuries and illnesses hopefully he can slide to the 10-15 range by draft night.
Love that song from my early youth, thanks for the reminder puke.

Good song, but it hardly justifies the existence of a generic keyboard warrior that would piss their pants in the real world.

As for Nick, he has brought that dark forces of the football gods down upon his head and he has to live with it now.

Have you thought about using dating sites Snake, finding a girl might keep you away from the dark forces of your keyboard.

How are you feeling about North's deteriorating draft position? Could Thomas be bid on before your first pick therefore stopping you double dipping? Apparently the AFL is looking at a slight rule change to stop teams with certain top 10 picks like North and Swans from trading out their first picks and thereby gaming the system, how do you feel about that?

1) Grow up.
2) Ask these questions in a relative thread if you want them answered. Try the draft thread on the North board.

Take your god belief to the SRP board Snake;).

Turns out he spent time in hospital and lost 4kgs. You seriously don't get anything right. It's incredible how wrong you are and how frequently.

I had gastro 6 years ago and I still remember just how horrible it was. There was one evening where I was almost silently begging for the sweet release of death.

Maybe you need to rethink your decision Nic , swans are gone , era is over I would look at the lions boy

Franklin starting to decline as players do as they reach their 30's and the Swans have become far to reliant on Buddy to kick a winning score.

Interesting what Longmire said overnight on how Buddy's foot and knee issues have restricted him to 0 min training. It said for the year but I think it meant to be saying 20 min per week for the season. Issues won't be fixed until off season which means surgery.

Swans need to find other KP forward support and a replacement.

How many years left in Buddy's contract? 4?

For example if we produce 6 Isaac Heeney types in one year, we get access to one, at best if other clubs make bids - this ends up costing us multiple picks for the privledge of one player. Then 5 other clubs get a quality players developed and paid for by the Swans.

The Brisbane Lions Academy has to date produced about 10 players on AFL lists, most of of them have ended up at other clubs. They have done an outstanding job but receive no thanks from the AFL community as a whole.

Cry us a river.

The Eagle's pay millions in dividends to the WAFL every year from profits which is used to develop the state junior development programs. It then pumps more money directly into multiple junior programs on top of this.

So where is the thanks from all those clubs that have benefited from this?

What happens with the Swans profits?

Who funds the NSW state league and all of those state run junior programs?

As for the Swans academy its funded by QBE. So do you think QBE throw hundreds of thousands in to just benefit the Swans or does QBE get some good marketing for its brand?

Sydney boss Andrew Ireland told Fairfax Media: “If they make it so onerous. then why would you bother continuing with the investment?” The Swans pushed for eight years to run its own academy but have never had a high draft-pick player until now. The club’s academy investment is largely funded by major sponsor QBE in an agreement which runs until the end of 2016.

Very selfish outlook by Ireland back then and the AFL called his bluff.

I'm sure if the Swans wanted to cut off their nose to spite their face QBE or another sponsor would love to jump in with the AFL and run a NSW junior academy without the Swans involved.

Whoah. Stop the Press. I can see the headline now in the Hun that will highlight this outrage and travesty.

"AFL Club uses sponsorship money to fund it's own Academy program fury bonanza"

You do realise that pretty much every AFL club (the non-pokies clubs that is) gets the majority of their revenue from the following?
a. AFL Distribution
b. Members/Gate
c. Sponsorship

It costs us one million dollars a year to run this program, the money has to come from somewhere.

Err, that is actually what happened in the past with the NSW Scholarship program (Taylor Walker got to Adelaide this way) and ultimately this is why we now have an Academy system.

You totally missed the point. Totally.

The point was a Swans supporter saying the Swans got no thanks or qudos for the work it was doing with its academy.

My point was that other clubs do the same and others much more. The threat from Irland to stop developing academy kids because it wasnt worth it to the Swans if they didnt get preferential and cheap access to the talent develop was flawed logic. It was also selfish.

Just because the Swans participate doesnt automatically give them ownership of the talent. As I said if the Swans didnt do it QBE and the AFL would do it in any case.

The bidding system is good because all teams both dirrectly and indirectly contribute to junior development, some more than others. The bidding system ensures that a more equitable outcome is achieved.

That is the point.

Actually no, your licence holders the WAFC use the profits they get from owning the Eagles to pay to the WAFL.

Congratulations on running clinics though.

No worries.:thumbsu:

Just dont forget how much all those Eagles profits benefit every AFL club that drafts a kid from WA who's development was aided by them.:)

You misquoted me. I said nobody thanks the Brisbane Lions for the 10 players that entered the AFL system from their academy.

The majority of these players are at other clubs from a program that the Lions had paid for themselves (or god forbid - their sponsors). Most non northern state people would prefer to bitch and moan about Heeney and Mills and forget this achievement which simply would not have happened under the old scholarship model.

Otherwise your point was petty and long winded.

Today's "Tomorrow's Heroes" focus player. Bid is expected in the 5-12 range.

Was eligible at Brisbane and North as a father/son prospect but is also a member of Sydney's academy and has chosen to nominate the Swans as his club of choice. His father is also an assistant coach at Sydney, which is probably a factor.

Blakey showed his prowess as a key forward earlier this year while playing for the Swans in the Academy series, finishing second in the Harrison Medal as the best player in the series.

When stationed in attack, the 195cm forward is good overhead, quick on the lead and tough in the air. He is a raking long kick and is agile when the ball hits the ground, making him difficult to stop.

Despite his size and presence as a forward, Blakey sees himself playing in the future as a midfielder. We saw that when he was playing for the Allies in their final game of the under-18 national carnival, when Blakey moved into the midfield and helped turn the game with his powerful clearance work from the centre.

The good thing about Blakey compared to most 18 year old KPF's is that he can play in the midfield, so while he is not big enough to hold down a spot in the forward line in 2019 there might be a spot for him in the midfield, where he can play for a few years until he is big enough to hold down a spot in the forward line.

I would have almost no doubt that should the crows not pick trade to move up, then a bid for Blakey at 8 (if one has not already come before it from another club) will be coming. This guys can really play and if not for the swans having dibs on him, he may well have gone top 3

It is hard to tell as he really has been injured for the last 12 months. His performances in the championships were okay without being great (partly due to his injuries).
