That's good value for Nick. Didn't have a preseason this year and was thus a bit down on form in the first half of the year, yet still finished second.

Since Daicos first assumed Brownlow favouritism in round 5 of 2023, after his electrifying start to his second season, here is the proportion of time spent as Brownlow favourite in the 2.5 years since:



Daicos retained favouritism throughout 2023 since he was installed as favourite early in the season, through until Cripps overtook him near the end of 2024 for the last couple of weeks of the home and aways season through to the Brownlow count. He was a clear favourite once the books were reopened for 2025 after the 2024 finals series, lost favouritism for a few weeks after his 'slow start' to 2025, but has retained it since about round 10.

Such an amazing statistic - have we ever seen this domination from any other player in the history of the game? Even GAJ at his peak?

Ablett Junior went 1st, 1st and 1st over 2007-2009 though so Daicos needs to at least get a run like that under his belt. Daicos might get 2 or 3 of the big 3 awards (Brownlow, League MVP, Coaches Association) in a single season too - again, like Ablett 2007-2009. Winning multiple BnFs in premiership seasons are also on the "to do" list. Then being the best performer of a finals series a few times. Many things for Nick to aim for.

You want to be careful about how you protect Ablett's standing against the rise of Nick.

Pinning so much on finals doesn't work well for Gaz. Three good, but not award winning, final series in his career isn't exactly up there in the pantheon of final's players.

Which players were better in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 finals series than Ablett? If he wasn't top every time, he was top 3 comfortably, for all of them. On top of truly dominant H&A seasons in each case.

BnF, 2/3 or 3/3 of the "Big 3" H&A awards, brilliant finals series in multiple premiership seasons (with a GF season wedged in between) makes a hell of a 3 year run. Nick hasn't gotten close to that yet.
