Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Here is just the Pies v Lions player ratings for you 👍

8 Lions in the top12, shared the load really well.

Poor Nick easily the most impactful player on the ground, but didn't have his running mates in DeGoey, Sidey, Long, Lipinski and Pendles join in like they did against Adelaide.

Yeah seems legit- Gallop had better game than McLuggage, Harris, Ashcroft and Rayner. 🙄

The thing is, if Collingwood fans just say "Daicos is a top 10 player in the league" I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.
Absolutely.
Before Daicos, they were going on about pendelbery being the greatest player ever before that it was buckley the greatest player ever.

See a pattern developing here.

Delusional springs to mind

Our early season form was because we came up with a way of zoning that cut out the 45 degree kicks, stopped transition and forced teams to go long down the line, which meant we could lock it in to a forward half game. But by the end of the year Brissy had worked out how to get around it and it was a forward half game for them. And then we had a shocker inside 50 in the third quarter giving up a ridiculous number of stoppage goals and pack marks to mediums. Shit happens.
omg, no. Seriously?

it's because the club is 80% 30+ yo players!!

the only thing that 'worked out' Collingwood in the 2nd half of this year was mother Nature/Father time

I know the Tigers love their player ratings

Naicos the standout player on the ground last night with a player rating of 26, just shaded by Danger.

Hilarious.

Again, goes to show what a joke PlAyEr RaTiNgZ are.

Wouldn't have been in his best dozen games this year.

But still Collingwood's best.

Geez
Surprised he didn’t actually kick a goal or only had one GA
Looks like he was head and shoulders above everyone else
👎

Could have very well wrapped up the Fadgelow too.

To have 2 x Fadgelows in your first 4 seasons is unprecedented.

But he is the emerging GOAT.
You watch Danger in big finals. Carey. Bont. Dusty. Judd. GAJ. Hodge. Goodes and even McLuggage. They impact on a whole other level to help separate games as they are powerful athletes Naicos is just not imposing enough or strong enough to provide similar influence - not his fault, he's just a small frame and finals are highly contested. Yesterday he was unable to stick multiple tackles at crucial times. He was not able to kick any goals and only had 4 x SI.

He played a good game. But when the game was at its fiercest in the final quarter and the season was on the line he didn't get a kick.

So he can't be the GOAT, but this doesn't mean he can't win multiple Brownlows and get a heap of AA selections and be an all-time great.

That’s because your team only played one quarter, and the rest of your mids played crap

The kid is a jet no doubt. Had a good career to date. Not a great game last night in a losing Prelim. Probably win if he plays better. Didn't get a kick in the last qtr in a losing Prelim is an indictment on him though i think.

Had an unbelievable start to his career. Not sure he has much more of a higher ceiling though. Good player regardless.

Yeah, let's compare finals CV's when their careers are over.

We can compare Daicos' finals CV with those players you mention in the first 4 years of their careers, and Daicos' CV compares very favourably, having been amongst Collingwood's best players in EVERY final he has played, including 3 as a 19 year old.

And all those players you mention have had sub par finals.

I don’t think anyone thinks he isn’t a good player, he is, its just the Goat thing Collingwood fans carry on about.

The narrative is that Naicos has had the best first four seasons of any player in the modern era.

And he has been in the Pies best in every final he has played so far.

Laughable when people jump on Naicos because the Pies lost. He had most CPs, clearances, disposals and was 2nd most inside 50s for us. But a 26.3 player rating game is a "gotcha" because the Pies lost.
They published the best finals players since 2016 (first year of Gary Ayres award) last week. Player ratings, coaches votes etc...were all included to provide a decent summary.

Daicos's coaches votes average before last night was 2.33/game. Eddie Betts was 3.6 and in 12th place. So not sure where 2.33 places Naicos? Maybe around 25th?

As for player ratings (min 3 x finals) - DeGoey was in 30th with an average rating of 13.7. We can now include last nights final, and Naicos's player rating average across 7 x finals in now 12.6. So again, not sure exactly but probably somewhere around 40th.

Naicos has 3 x goals and 3 x goal assists in 7 x finals. Average of 0.86 goal contributions per final. Dusty was 2.81 in finals. Danger is 1.75. GAJ 1.32. Will Ashcroft 1.86 in his 7 x finals.

So whilst his H&A 'stats' are excellent, his finals comparison is very modest. He can obviously improve on this.

But finals are much more highly contested and fierce....Naicos just can't impact or get 'votes' as he can in uncontested and free flowing H&A games.

It's not his fault, his body just isn't ideally suited to finals footy.

Are you saying Daicos got such a high PlAyEr RaTiNg because all our other mids were crap?

I'm not sure that's how the algorithm works...
You despise player ratings FADGE....you think they are a joke. So are you leaning on them now because Naicos didn't get a kick in the crucial last quarter, didn't kick a goal, missed multiple crucial tackles and had just 4 x SI?

So are ratings a joke as you've said for a decade, or not?

As I said, if you want to compare Daicos' finals performances with his contemporaries, let's look at how everyone performed in the first 4 years of their careers.

How did Martin perform in finals in his first 4 years, for example?

GAJ?

Danger?

Where have I 'leaned on' PlAyEr RaTiNgZ?

His 'awards' and 'votes' in H&A are excellent and Pie fans and media muppets tell us he's the best in the game. So when his finals 'awards' and 'votes' have him well outside the top-25, then at this stage it's laughable to have him as the beat in the game.

If he was the 'best' as Pie fans keep telling us, then he'd dominate finals....he doesn't. Maybe one day he will and he can lay claim to be one of the very best in the game.
