Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Yes.

Daicos won 176 clearances, no other Pies managed 100
Daicos won 319 contested possessions, next best was our ruck with 229.
Daicos and Cameron attended 480 centre bounces, 100 more than the next Pie.

If you watched footy you would know that Daicos transitioned from loose HBF in his debut season to our #1 inside midfielder in season 3.

NWM still playing the loose HBF role (apart from 6 games at the end of the season).

So Daicos attended 100 more centre bounces.
Sort of makes sense he got the most.

Yeah makes sense that your #1 inside mid attends the most CBAs.

Neale was at 630 CBAs, #1 for Brisbane
Crippa was at 561 CBAs, #1 for Carlton
Serong was at 485 CBAs, #1 for Freo
T.Green was at 564 CBAs, #1 for GWS
LDU was at 574 CBAs, #1 for North
Newcombe was at 505 CBAs, #1 for Hawks
J.Steel was at 501 CBAs, #1 for Saints

N.Daicos was at 482 CBAs, #1 for Pies

It is obvious to most that Nic was the Pies #1 inside midfielder in 2024, and his numbers compared favourably in terms of winning clearances and gaining 1st possession of the ball.

But you are still pretending he is a soft outside HBF. Who was the Pies #1 inside mid if it wasn't Daicos?

Please find a post where I said he’s a soft outside squib.

Also I’m sure the ball is directed to other mids in rotations

Definitely sure Bris GWS WB etc even StKilda

Not sure your directing hit outs to Ned Long.

Where did I ever say you said that?
Far out you are a battler.

The best inside midfielders are the players who win most 1st possessions at stoppages and win the clearances - the players who feed it out to the outside good ball users.

Daicos in his 3rd season (2024) stepped into this role for the Pies, and he was rated top5 in the league.

But you still view him as an outside player, you need to watch some footy.

Yeah some clubs have more than one so obviously clearances are shared.
You know how that works?

So Libba and Bont two elite clearance mids shouldn’t play together?
Why?
You want multiple strong midfielders to have a successful team.
Green and Callaghan Oliver ?
Callaghan has never really been a dominant inside midfielder.
Neale and Dunkley
Neale has been a star since Freo days.

He own personal numbers haven't really differed much from when he was in a bottom 4 Freo team, and when in a Lions top 4 team.

His team results have obviously improved when in the stronger team with better players.

Again not even sure what your point is meant to be?

Daicos clearly stepped up and was one of the best inside mids in the competition in just his 3rd season.

Meanwhile NWM was still playing across HB in his 4th season (apart from a six week period at the end of the season).

My point is clubs do things differently. I’d say those clubs would have more clearance mids so numbers would be spread.

Like Cripps at Carlton he dominated numbers as he was basically it.

You keep going on about NWM coming into the middle this year.
Look at there body size look at the teams they got drafted too.
One is in a young developing team the other contending.
NWM now has the size and increased midfield support.

LOLOLOL.

Yep, he has only moved into the middle for about six weeks. Apart from that he has been a HBF like Lachie Whitfield.

So hang on, you are saying that despite being introduced into a senior established team that it was easier for Naicos to push into the midfield.

The Saints preferred kids like Windhager and Philipou to be pushed into the midfield.

In 2023 Daicos was that good his form demanded he push into the midfield, and he was helping us win games.

In 2024, when our main big bodied inside mids (T.Mitchell and DeGoey) were injured, Daicos stepped up as our main inside midfielder despite being not even 80kg.

Finally in 2025 with the Saints season already done, they gave NWM a run in the middle.

Look at the body types FFS.
NWM was a stick when drafted.

I am sure you will pretend that Nic was a massive physical specimen.

His build was why the Pies introduced Nic in the loose HBF spot, but after just 30 games he demanded to be played in the middle for a premiership team.

Seriously they were completely different physically
Do all players come in the same size now?

2 days ago Fadge was on 1059 posts, he/she is now up to 1105.

Brayshaw and Serong?
Just on Libba snd Bont. there was a game where Nick got 27 contested posessions and 16 clearances against the Bulldogs.. they were his opposition...and he got bagged for his performance in the last quarter lol because Bont went beserk when he was having a rest after carrying the side singlehandedly.

Its amazing how hard he gets marked compared to your average player

Goes both ways.
When he hits a basic 15 meter pass the commentators lose their mind.

Don't forget Treloar's influence on that game.

It took prime Bont AND Treloar to overrun a 21 year old Daicos for a narrow victory.

It's not us who have been saying that the reason he polls so many Brownlow votes is because the Pies have no other decent players to take them off him...

You need to make up your minds.

One minute Long McCreery DeGoey are a formidable force going forward

Next minute Daicos has no support.

Next minute Pendles Crisp Sidey have got plenty of elite footy left and play key roles.

Next minute fringe and easily replaced.

No, we Pie supporters know exactly where our list stands.

It's you blokes who flip flop based on the narrative at the time.

NWM and Rankine are the two with the potential to get to Nick's level.

But Nick's got another level he can get to as he adds strength.
