Well they dont' call him 'Pelican' for nothing.
Thanks to his stubbon and stupid ways of negotiating ht Hawks got very little for Everitt plus they missed out on Thornton (it is 99 percent certain that T-bird will either be a Blue or BOmber next year :) )
Too bad for Pelican if he thinks that the Blues would capitulate in trade negotations.

Pelchen earned his trade-week stripes last year when he cajoled, twisted and frustrated the Kangaroos into giving up two first-round draft picks for a broken down defender in Jonathan Hay

You gotta respect the way the Pelcher grinds his rivals into submission.

We didn't win or lose out of this trade - we broke even, you'd think Pelchen - by his own standards, would see this as abit of a disappointing result.

Hahaha nice one slapp. You do realise that this is the same Chip LeGrand who wrote an article on how Dean Laidley had approached St.Kilda for the coaching position.Or you didn't know that? Or the same Chip LeGrand who wrote that the guy who threw himself under a train was a direct result of his altercation with Laidley.See a pattern forming?? Then did a complete backflip losing all credibility as he did while wiping the egg from his face when Kenny Sheldon admitted to the contrary. :thumbsd:

Kangas shouldn't knock themselves out about it anyway. They got Bailey who won't be as good as Kangas rucks and Birchall who gets possies but will never hurt the opposition.Just more Tassie Dawk Delusion.Apparently Hay is training his ass off currently anyway from what I heard. They may well yet end up with egg on their Tassie faces.

This from the supporter of a club who entirely stonewalled the whole week to hide away from the reality that one of their better players desperately wanted out of the club. The only reason the Blues didn't fold in negotiations is that they were too afraid to genuinely partake in them.

Oh and Hawthorn got about what they expected for Everitt (which was more than Sydney had tried to offer), and would have got a bit more had St Kilda not swooped late on Gardiner.

I hope Carlton does keep Thornton.

But for a once proud club to have to force a player to be there against his will and pay a good deal extra for the privilege, means that Carlton are in desperate need of professionals of Pelchin's calibre.

I think he got what spida was worth. Got a better pick than the lions got for akka. Swans originally offered us their 3rd round pick don't forget.

With thornton he was in a no win situation with carlton having pick 1 in the psd they always have the option of using it to get thornton back if he likes it or not. Not sure if they would have taken pick 6 but that would have been a terrible trade for us to give up a lot more than thornton is worth.

Without pick 1 in the psd i bet carlton would have been a lot more interested in trading him. That is the only reason he is still a carlton player imo.

Do you want to know something ?
This trade negotiations is in Carlton's favour as clearly during the week Carlton place more stock and faith in him then Hawthorn, despite the money issue, we were more desperate to keep him then the Hawks were in the first place.
Fact is how would Thornton feel about a club that wanted him but wasn't prepared to pay market and fair value for him ???
One thing is for sure he won't be a Hawk and I reckon this time the Hawthorn admin got their just desserts.
The Roos made a blunder last year, but they can't expect every club to make a ridiculous unfair deal.
Sorry Thornton was worth more then 2 second round draft picks IMHO.

Contradiction city!

Effectively you're saying that the Roos blundered in effectively giving up 14 & 18 (in an indirect fashion) for Hay who was more highly regarded (at the time) in a weaker draft; whereas two second rounders in this case was a ridiculously weak offer for a largely unproven player with a strong draft looming?

And even Thornton himself would've been painfully aware that he wasn't worth pick 6!

If carlton didn't have the no 1 pick in the psd he wouldn't be playing for you again.

Speaing of players not hurting the opposition, opposing teams love Hay playing because then they know they have a 23rd player playing for them.

Oh, so he's finally bene kicked out of the casino has he? And Hay could train his arse off for the rest of his life but he will still be s*** and not worth two or even one first round pick. The hawks wont come out with egg on their faces, clearly the kangas lost heavily on this one. There is a good reason why in the age, the review of the Kangaroos trading said: "Burnt by the Hay trade". Clearly, they got pwned.

I bet if Mike Sheahan said "something will happen in the trades today", you'd be the sort of person who'd sit by the radio.Gotta learn that papers are to be sold.Nothing more. And who wrote the article? Was it USC (as she is known to Roos fans for reasons you wouldn't know)Caroline "Richmond" Wilson? or Robert "no idea" Walls? Either way, LMFAO.Oh, we're gonna fold next year too, did you know that? Just thought I'd inform you. :o

Well if a first round draft selection was what Carlton wanted, I'm not surprised. The two second rounders was more than adequate compensation for a player of his capabilities.
Fact is how would Thornton feel about a club that wanted him but wasn't prepared to pay market and fair value for him ???
I thought they were offering absolute market value for him.Its just that they, and him in particular, were heavied by Pagan.
One thing is for sure he won't be a Hawk and I reckon this time the Hawthorn admin got their just desserts.
I'm no fan of Hawthorn, I think they are a club of pratts and contrary to the "family club" analogy, they couldn't be anything further removed, but nobody got their just deserts. This is just business. What happened IMO was Pagan by his actions said to Thornton "Fine, you don't want to re-sign then you can go into the PSD and go to Essendon or the Kangaroos.Whether or not he would have accepted that is anyones guess but he certainly wasn't going to get to Hawthorn.Believe me, NOBODY f*cks with Pagan.
The Roos made a blunder last year, but they can't expect every club to make a ridiculous unfair deal.
Every club makes trade/draft blunders. At the time they were getting a 26 year old AA full back.Up front where was the blunde? And one thing about North as opposed to some clubs is they will stick by him while moving on at the same time.If/when he comes good, he will be the asset we were hoping for.If not then he gets moved on.The world doesn't end for us if Hay doesn't play again. It just gets marked down as a trade that didn't work out.
Sorry Thornton was worth more then 2 second round draft picks IMHO.
Well that is your opinion, however two second rounders was more than enough IMO.

I don't read Sheehan, but its a fact that the Kangas got pwned by that deal, they gave the hawks pick 14 for a player who has spent half the season in the casino and the other half playing for the reserves, and playing badly. :o I'm sure that when Kangaroos fans see Bichall collect 30 touches each game, they will realise what a mistake they made.

This is why its annoying when ill informed people make comments that they have no idea about. The pick for Hay was 18, for a start.Pick 14 they got from Port Adelaide.

I saw Birchall collect the odd possession against us in round 21.I also saw a first gamer for us, a guy who only moved from England a few years back pick up 22 and do quite well in the ruck against Hawthorns latest hottest ruck combo, and get the rising star award for that round.I do recall Birchall, vaguely, but I'm sorry to say I recalled the other more.I also don't recall thinking after that performance too much about Jon Hay.Maybe I did but its slipped my mind. :)
