"You right are ya?"

I think that a week in the ants would be a big reality check for Stevo. He needs to realise that we have youngsters coming through(gibbs, murph, joseph, kreuzer) that will lead us to a premiership and if he wants to be there he has to perform week in week out

nick stevens was a good player before his neck injury. Has become too much of an outside player recently. I have seen him pull out of contact recently which is poor. He's still a good player but he can be better and needs to play some more inside footy like he used to. His handball has been poor.

This thread should have ended after Dooky's post, before the immature comments crept in such as 'Drop his fat little piggy ass'

We had a chance to have one thread of brilliance folks...we had a chance...

Best post I've read in a long while Dooky :thumbsu:

Him and Judd were the only blokes who were giving Carlton forwards a 50/50 go when the ball was kicked into the forwardline, he might be a soft/fat/useless/soft/fat frontrunner as everyone has labeled him, but hes one of the blokes the carlton forwards want kicking to them when its a one on one contest in the forwardline

Way to valuable to be dropping untill someone better comes along

Probably true

But dropping him would make a huge statement and hopefully bring the realization that the clock is 'hammering' and he must be an example of driven dedication if he is to ever play in a premiership

Welcome to the Carlton BigFooty Forum Random Name Generator.

Every week after a loss we will generate a random name from a set list of scapegoats for all your shitslinging needs. Enjoy!

Usually the threads are created by pimply faced kids that are more interested in their fantasy footy teams than the real thing.

You just have to sort the wheat from the chaff.

cp you would have noted that I was not sure whether I wanted to or not but can you answer this:

Does Stevo strike you as a footballer driven by the fear that he may never play in a premiership?

Well he did skip his brother's wedding in order to play in an pre-season night premiership for us, so I would suggest that the will to win/be successful is in Stevo, it's just that some people choose to ignore it ..
I have no doubts as to Stevo's character whatsoever, esp when I read a couple of years ago that he and his partner actually hang out/take care of a boy (who is about 10 years old) with down syndrome a couple of times a month as part of a big brother program (which he didn't want to be mentioned in the media/papers btw, but it got revealed etc) and I thought that showed the sum of the man's parts ..

IN our darkest days back in 2005/06 etc, we probably wouldn't have won any games at all in those years, if it weren't for the efforts of him and Fev (and probably Heath Scotland as well)
I am as negative/cynical as the next Carlton fan here on these boards (maybe more so) but I refuse to see Stevo in the bad light that everyone makes him out to be ..
BTW Making fun of his weight isn't a very good argument, it was hardly players we had in the past, like Wayne Harmes, were light weights either ...

Like Hoops Nick Stevens knows he has great skill. However right now we need a lot more from both. We need toughness, leadership and hunger/desire. If they do not have it.....

Don't see that he was any different before the neck injury. Back then he had his great games and also had his bad games. I believe his problem at Port and at Carlton has always been mental not physical. If he ever fixed this he would be a great addition to any side.

CP - Ratts came out and applauded Armfield, even the West Australian had an article about him yesterday saying how he has improved and was one of oour best.
Did you do as I asked and watch the replay.?
You are so very wrong this time!

Nick Stevens is a real worry at the moment.

He is becoming more of a liability on the field than an asset and therefore his place in the team should be coming under immense scrutiny not just from the supporters but from the coaching staff.

Stevens does not run, he does not chase, and he offers us absolutely nothing from a defensive point of view. Each and every time the opposition gain possession of the ball, we are effectively playing 1 man down and are at an enormous disadvantage.

I would 100% support any decision to drop Stevens to the Bullants for 1 week or even longer, but I just don't see it happening. The coaching staff need to push the notion that if you do not put in a full effort then you will not keep your spot in the team. Stevens has been a good player for quite a few years but his spot in our best 22 should not be as automatic as it once was. We now have options in the reserves that can replace him, and do a better job than him when placed on a direct opponent.

Stevens appears to have lost the hunger to play at the top level. Whether it is a temporary thing or more permanent, we can only find out once we do something about it. Drop him to the Bullants and if he really wants to come back I'm sure you will see a very determined Stevens probably dominate a level that he really should.

Stevens' half-arsed efforts cost us a hell of a lot more than we should be suffering for. Give those that want to play in the seniors a chance to show what they have to offer. The way Stevens is playing at the moment, it's not as if we'll lose a whole lot so I do not see why we wouldn't play someone like Bannister, Anderson, Browne or Robinson in his place.

We dropped Houlihan for the game against Fremantle probably because he has benchmarks that he did not meet in the game against Hawthorn. I have no problem with this but we need to be consistent with our players across the board. Stevens has put in a few below par performances over the last few weeks. There is absolutely no way he has met the benchmarks the coaches will have set for him, and if he has, then those benchmarks are way too low.

Armfield was most definitely one of our better players on the weekend. Love how he's ready to take the game on at any opportunity. He is very evasive as well. As he's said previously, his rugby background helps him out alot with this as the entire aim of the game is to keep the ball moving and to evade tackles. Coming along nicely!

For crying out loud, you don't get a serious neck injury that had the capacity to leave one a paraplegic for life if left untreated, by being an 'soft front runner' ...

I know I'm a bit of a 'negative nellie' but honestly I think the amount of sledging and crap Stevo gets on this board is appalling ..

He is one of the best kicks of the ball in the team IMHO, and really I don't think his attitude or work rate can be questioned at all (Certainly by those who are knowledgeable of the game)

His kicking was disgraceful on the weekend. And he let Hasleby tear us to pieces. He deserves enormous criticism for his game.
