For crying out loud, you don't get a serious neck injury that had the capacity to leave one a paraplegic for life if left untreated, by being an 'soft front runner' ...
I know I'm a bit of a 'negative nellie' but honestly I think the amount of sledging and crap Stevo gets on this board is appalling ..
He is one of the best kicks of the ball in the team IMHO, and really I don't think his attitude or work rate can be questioned at all (Certainly by those who are knowledgeable of the game)

Yeah with an Effective disposal rate of 43% like last week...![]()

Sorry there champ,
what the **** does that mean?
... gonna get it 25 times,
like he does every week.
I did see him dive into the bag behind the goals for a kick out when a point was scored. Was an accident actually as he was having a bite of a pie from a fan in the cheer squad when some pastry fell down into the bag and you know what they say..waste not want not!You mean he's going to get it given to him 25 times.. He never goes and actually gets it..
Lets see if you can string more than 10 words together other than................
XXXX NO...![]()

While I agree with much of what you have written, the bolded commment is no less emotive and overstating the case than those you wish to argue against.
Does he win a majority of hard ball? No. Is that his job? No.
I think Nick is having some trouble adjusting from life as the number 1 midfielder in an average side, and everyone looked to him to use the footy all the time.
Now, in the space of 1 year, he has gone from number 1 to number 4, with Judd, Murphy and Gibbs being the preferred options.
IMHO, rather than look upon this as an opportunity, to run "off the leash" and with less attention, Stevens without the expectation, has got a little lazy, and even his finishing skills now don't cover for his defensive problems.
Whether or not it relates to not getting the captaincy is another issue that may be realted as well, but he should have been coming into this season in the best shape ever, knowing that as the third or fourth midfielder, he could be back to his best "running and gunning" Port type footy.
Sadly, he presented overweight, got himself suspended, and proved why he was not the best choice for captain.
Off field I;m sure he is a nice bloke, but IMO for the sake of our team and for his future, he should be dropped - just to make it clear we expect so much more from him.......not in tackling and winnig hard ball (though that would be nice), but I'd just settle for the things we know is is good at......finishing with great skills.![]()

You might want to get to know a few of your fellow posters writing styles before running off at the keyboard like that. Numbers can be genuinely cryptic when commenting (yeah ok, particularly at night) but he has as good a handle on the club's history as anyone and an acute holistic sense of the team's core issues.
I had to find my own Rosetta Stone in order to translate his words but you start to get a feel for it after a while.![]()

Thy, its all cool and been sorted...I will endeavour to check out the posting styles b4 I comment...
But when it comes to Stevo.. Ive tolerated as much defending and excuses for him than I can take..So I tend to bite a bit harder on this subject as Stevens friggen annoys me...
Now you're applauding Stevens? We all know Stevens isn't the sort of gang/crash/tackle type of player, and neither was other players from the club like Craig Bradley either ..
The club values leadership and on-field direction in qualities other then some of the things that other fans are complaining about with Stevo.
At his age and with recovering from that serious neck/spinal condition he had, i don't think he'll change his style of player, or become the hard-chasing/tackling sort of magnet that some fans want him to be, so complaining about it, won't do anything, I think we should just be more supportive of the bloke, whom really has given the club decent service ...
And saying he doesn't play for the club or the jumper (as some posters have infered) is just crazy talk ..
Instead of bad mouthing him all the time, lets try and focus on the good Stevo brings to the club, for instance he had 8 contested possies on the w/end, and as well he had 25 disposals at a higher effiency rate then Marc Murphy or Chris Judd.
He is still one of the best kicks/users of the pill at this club.
Some fans on this forum (and I have been one of them on other players) are very harsh markers IMHO.
Now you're applauding Stevens?
You're all humour.
I just happen to think Stevens is getting a very raw deal amongst many of the supporters here ...
