I passionately dislike this guy. However, they just showed a clip on the news, of him playing golf in his carlton tee-shirt, stating that he has come out and declared that he wants to be the next captain of Carlton, saying he believes he has got what it takes. Also said Lance is probably ahead of him.

What a t0sser. He does not deserve to be Captain. Ego is nothing, if you dont have the record to show for it. He has not done much this year.

I'll be so pissed off if he is our Next Captain. A leader has to have passion, so this rubs off on the kids.

he is not the man for the job.

Lance for Captain. Fev/Scotland/Walker vice captains.

Are you aware that Nick played with a severe back injury all season this year? He has also taken Marc Murphy under his wing, which so far looks to be having a good effect. As it has been said before Lance is not completely supported by the players and a lot of them would be very unhappy if he were made captain. I still think Fev is the right man for the job BUT obviously that wont work any more. Think they should make Fev/Stevo/Whitnall captains until Murph is ready. Got one in each area of the ground that way.

Nick is a top bloke, and a lot of players look up to him. If you don't know much about him personally, let alone as a player, then you shouldnt bag him.

Sharing the load isn't the answer.

Lance should be Captain for the next 2 or so years, then it should be handed over to Murphy or someone of a similar age.

Nick may have been playing with a bad back, but being a Captain isnt just about your on field performance: it is also equally important to have the right persona, in support of team mates and encouragement no matter how frustrated you may be.

The other reason Lance is the right man is he knows the game, he knows when he is needed down back and when he can move forward.
If we can get Saddington up and running, this will release Lance to play around the ground in a variety of positions. This will in itself create real dramas for other teams, imagine Lance as the 3/4 forward or the 3/4 backman.

Your right blue feaver, been captain isnt all about on field performance.

Thats why Stevens really is a candidate, he always puts his hand up to help out the club.
Takes players under his wing, does extra work at training, and you might of noticed IF you have ever bought a raffle ticket or gone to a function he often offers his services as a landscaper or gardener as a prize - just to help the club make some money.

His form was obviously below par last season, but from what i have heard he hasnt lost much respect from the playing group as they all know he is injured.

Hopefulyl with Murphy, Simpson, Walker, etc stepping up and Gibbs developing a little pressure is taken of Stevens and he can get him self right.

Wouldnt be too disheartened if he were made joint captain with Lance.

AWG probably isn't aware - I certainly wasn't. It doesn't surprise me that he's been carrying something. He's too good a player to perform like he has this year.

It's probably why he polled well in the B&F. Match committees would weight someone they knew was struggling with injuries, but buttering up each week anyway.

Stevens has been disappointing since coming across...but that is to be expected really. Stevens is NOT a number 1 midfielder, and he struggles when he is expected to be exactly that. As our midfield has been very weak, he has had to shoulder more burden than he is used to, and struggled with this role.

Hopefully, with the maturation of Simpson, Walker and Bentick, the addition of Gibbs and a few others, Stevens will become the 3rd or 4th best midfielder in the side. Only then will we see the best of Nick Stevens, when he has less pressure on his shoulders. Hopefully it is sooner rather than later. Look at the Port Adelaide side he was playing in-he was not the number 1 midfielder, more like number 3 or 4. That is when he was at his best.

part right, part wrong. i think it's mainly tagging but other than that he hasn't been too disappointing. i know his 2006 wasn't great but shouldering the tags the number one midfielder gets and an injury. and dont let his 2006 fool you, this guy can play and dont be suprised if he wins our b&f or close to it.

That's the biggest load I've read in a while. Stevens was down on form this year but in 04'-05' he was our most consistant and arguably best player. He is a number one midfielder but like every AFL player he needs to be part of a proper rotation to stay in the game. If he can complete a preseason and stay injury free his best form will return

Not that i'm doubting you, but where did you hear this news from?

You need some help. The guy should be given a Medal of Honor for coming to the Blues when he did. Seriously, you need to back off and take out some aggression on somene like Teague.

Let's not forget missing his brother's wedding to help win the Wizard Cup for a team he'd only played for for one season. Nothing against Lance per se, but I'd be quite happy with Stevo.

So you are happy with him and his output since joining us?

Don't get me wrong, he is a good player. But he needs support. Without good midfielders around him he struggles.

Yes i am. This season wasn't his best but he works hard, gets to contests, trains hard, runs enormous distances in games and has leadership. 95% of AFL midfielders struggle to stamp their authority in games without the support around them. So you may be dissapointed with his output, that's your view, but i am more dissapointed it has taken us this many years to finally have some players develop who can actually play midfield so contributions can be evenly spread.

Stevo is a top bloke, get off his back you headcase! Had a disappointing year, but will bounce back in '07

FWIW Lance will most likely be the next captain, so you wont have to be pissed off and start mutiple threads about it

there was a great article in one of the papers last year with stevens and his partner looking after a young boy with down syndrome every second weekend. sounds like a pretty good bloke to me! :thumbsu:

Exactly. Gee, it really sounds like a bloke with an ego who you wouldn't respect.
