We have a whole lot of padding in our team, and increasingly on our list, that is out of their depth against the best teams in the competition. Happened last year and is happening this year. We will keep extending their contracts though and their game time.

The problem with Suban is that he gets told to 'mind' an opposition player and that's all he thinks about instead of actually trying to get the ball himself, read the game and get in the right positions. Instead he just follows another player around and he's always second to the ball. Some of our players need to back themselves instead of 'watching' the opposition.

can't believe clowns who think suban spot is under threat have their own thread
guy bleeds purple, has a raking left boot goes in hard as anyone on the afl,
had probably the best season he's had this year
and this thread is what 29 pages long(?not that I've read any of it)
have a good hard look at yourselves nuff nuffs

What do you think after that performance?

That raking left boot was super effective the two times it showed up yesterday.

Can't carry him (and a few others) into a Prelim and possible Grand Final. Not too confident we'll see much change though.

Clearly guys with better football minds than you (Ross & match committee) agree with me rather then you.
Understand wanting to stand up for him but that argument supposes that coaches never make a mistake.

2013 gf selection and Neale left on pine due to same model of thinking as current selections is one example.

Suban isn't a completely rubbish footballer and he would be a decent player in some lower level teams around the league. But on form he shouldn't play next game. Do you agree?

He's a rubbish footballer. Sydney's depleted midfield dominated while he plodded around doing nothing.

Better team with him in it? Yeah right.

I seriously doubt they intended for Suban to have had the game he had yesterday. You think the coaches planned for him to have 4 disposals and get subbed on performance? Yeah what tactical genius Wizard .

Suban is my riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.
Every week I think: "Will this be the game when he has a Hilly-like moment...and is BOG?"....
Almost every week I am left disappointed :(
I see something there. I wait.....I wonder....I ponder. Maybe Ross sees something too and is waiting for that Suban moment....

I just don't understand why Suban spends so much time in the centre square. Hill is always on the wing, I would have him in the centre square more. We need his speed to pounce on the balls that get hit into space. We're too slow in there.

Barlow should be in there instead of Suban.

Suban like Dawson seems to a favourite of Ross. Some reason Ross likes the raging bull routine.

Hill does start in the centre on occasion. Probably as often as Suban.

Suban is dead weight no matter where you play him. Four touches in three quarters is diabolically bad for a centre square mid, especially when Sydney's two better inside mids get 60 touches between them in that time. If he's in there to defend, where is the defence?

And Suban only laid one tackle. What the **** was this bloke doing?

IMO, bring Duffield in to half back flank, move Sutcliffe to the wing, Pearce/Hill high half forward and Barlow in the guts. It's time Ross. You've given Suban heaps of opportunity and he's delivered nothing.

Suban provides the luls when he's angry. That's about it. We are constantly being let down by him in games that matter. It's too late now, he's not going anywhere this year but if he plays consistently each week next year, he's taking up a promising youngster's spot.

Then we would be to slow on the outside:rolleyes:

How do you figure that? o_O We already are a slow team. Having Hill in the middle bursting out with the ball will help us score more goals.

I'm not trying to be critical but there was a time on the weekend where Hill had the ball 40m out from goal with no good options ahead of him. Instead of going for goal which a player of his caliber should be doing, he tried to pass it and the ball was turned over. I really don't understand the direction from the coaching staff when a team who doesn't score a lot doesn't instruct their class attacking players to take their opportunities.

I would love to see Hill in the centre square at bounce-downs more often.

Forget promising youngster, he's taking what should be Barlow's spot, who is far better at the defensive side of the game, and a better player overall. Plonk Barlow in the guts, tell him to block space and tackle the opposition's best clearance mid, and he'll not only do it better than Suban but also win a bit of ball himself.

The old "Ross is always right" argument again.

He has never been able to get the ball in his entire career. He only became a tagger this season. Previous to this he averaged 13 touches a game, which is absolutely pathetic for a midfielder.

Nick Suban: 128 games averaging 13 disposals and 0.4 goals a game. You'd be hard pressed to find a worse return from a career midfielder in AFL/VFL history.

In comparison Brett Peake averaged 16 and 0.5. And he was considered a spud.

128 games and only ever polled votes in 1 of those 128.

Suban was trying to tag a player. I think he followed him into the bounce. This is another reason he should not tag.

Suban played a howler on the weekend but he's been like that all year, i.e. one good game, followed by 3 shockers. His consistency is his problem. His best is quite good, his average is serviceable but his bad is terrible.

Like others I just can't see him being left out but tbh, Duffield and Langdon would be better at this stage and if Blakely had've been exposed a touch more throughout the season and was 100% fit, he'd be better too.

We still need to fit 2 talls in to our line up so someone has to make way for them. Suban could possibly be one of them but I doubt it.
