I don't want to call it anything, that's up to you guys.
If you want Tasmania, call it that, it would save all the bickering, I don't have to like it.

Hey?Well that helps the conversation.![]()

I'm arguing about using a state name when no other club in the
country do that.
I suppose Tassie need to to get support, call it Hobart and the North get upset, call it Launceston ant the south get upset.
Maybe we could even the comp up to 20 and call it Victoria, get a side that represents the country?
Hobart-Launceston Tasmanian Wolves (Thylacine).
Just split the club if Tassie ever gets two teams

Like I said, it's not up to me, I don't have to like it, try this for size.I think you’re conveniently ignoring the fact that Tassie is the smallest state in the nation (540,000 pop). The AFL has used the population size in the past as reason to deny the state’s entry into the competition so it would be incredibly stupid for the club to take on a city name instead of a state name.
Sydney has a population of over 5 million (10 x the state of Tassie). When they won the premiership did the supporters of Vic clubs criticise them and say “you needed the support of a whole city to win the flag” ? No, of course they didn’t. Your argument is based on flawed logic.
As I keep pointing out to others, the vast majority of Tasmanians have no issue with the club having the name of the state and having multiple home grounds. The only people who seem to have an issue with it are: a) not from Tasmania and b) will not be supporting the club anyway.
The nickname could be Greens.
State team, ran by a state government, so going with the flow there.
Really, team might be the wrong term, government hobby maybe.
Will it ever feel like a football club?
Maybe i'm too old school.
It seems like I hit a nerve.Don't know about old school, maybe going to school might've helped.
WTF has green got to do with the State Government?. They're Liberal, colour blue for a start!! A Tassie club would most definitely be run by the AFL. They like to control everything.
State teams have players from that state, or state league, not via a national draft. So maybe learn that obvious fact first
Did the name changing North Melbourne, Kangaroo, North Melbourne club which has flown everywhere for money feel like a football club since the VFL became the AFL? Playing everywhere else but Victoria for survival money can't have made the supporters feel too important.
Confused. confusing rubbish. It seems like I hit a nerve.
If it's called Tasmania, then it's named after the state, financed by the state government, so it will be ran by the state government (state team, or hobby)
And the dig about North, well maybe you are right, but if that rocks your boat to have a dig at another club because I upset you, says more about you I think.
Green is the colours for Tassie isn't it, also the name of a political party, you will be a politically ran club, so just vote greens and there is your nickname.
The AFL will finance it with Tassie state government money?Confused. confusing rubbish.
The AFL will run the club. You can bet on that.
Like I said, it's not up to me, I don't have to like it, try this for size.
Tasmania Devils.
To me that sounds stupid.
So do they call themselves Tasmanian or Tassie?
They are called Tasmanian Devils, or Tassie Devils, not Tasmania Devils.Tasmania Devils is fine with me because Tasmania is the place where the club will be based. It’s not as if Melbourne footy club refer to themselves as the Melburnian Demons.
The AFL will finance it with Tassie state government money?
Yes I think you are confused, if you think they will just hand over money and not have any say how the hobby is ran.
Politicians try not to associate with losers, they will have their say. "You can bet on that"
So you think a government will provide finance freely if they are useless for years, yeah right. The new NBL team was set up with both NBL & Government money.
The Government have no involvement in management.
The trick is whats in the contract.
In the case of the JJ's it was about ensuring the team remains in Tasmania & other commercial developments involving the NBL owner (hotels etc). With the new AFL team, it will be a long term guarantee of 11 home games against ALL other AFL clubs.
The Government see the AFL team as a part of Tasmanian tourism, advertising the place, & also giving huge social benefits to the state. The sort of thing which Geelong has.
You can bet on that.
So you think a government will provide finance freely if they are useless for years, yeah right.
It will be financed and ran by the state government.
Show us this contract then.I can see concepts such as Contractual obligations are beyond some.
Enjoy your own limited imagination.
Show us this contract then.
You see you don't even have a contact, but you seem to be telling me you know what is already in it.
Who is imagining?
Don't start trying to make out I said I know what the contract is, you are the one that tried that, just like most times I have chatted to you, you seem to talk for all of Tasmania.Ok, yes yes your conspiracy theory is right. Contracts & KPI's are irrelevant.
Premier Gutwein resigned so he can take over the new team & run it for the Government. Just like they run the NBL team, Tas cricket, Mona, Cadbury chocolates, the Apple industry & everything else in Tasmania.
The small Parliament of 13 Libs (plus 11 ALP, 1 Green) have time to do all that, fight the opposition & manage Government Departments etc etc etc.
Well done, you're too clever, congratulations.
They are called Tasmanian Devils, or Tassie Devils, not Tasmania Devils.
Don't start trying to make out I said I know what the contract is, you are the one that tried that, just like most times I have chatted to you, you seem to talk for all of Tasmania.
All I know for certain is, governments don't hand out shiploads of money for no return, if the shite hits the fan, they will step in or stop the finances.
And if you want to start with the berating, don't get upset if I start flinging some back at you, like how clever you are knowing what the contract is before it's even drawn up an signed.
Not only that, then trying to tell me about it and getting upset when I brought it up, trying to put me down, when it's you who has no idea.
So if you want to talk about sensible, how stupid is that?
When I say run, I meant have a say.Governments hand out money all the time, usually for a political return. Sometimes theirs a financial return & or social benefit, as well.
What is so so difficult to understand that they agree to terms, with agreed financial terms, KPI's etc. They then sign contracts.
They don't manage or run things like sports clubs,
