Rights to the name had been obtained by the AFL some years back, so the NBL couldn't use it even if they wanted to.

Tassie Waratahs sounds awesome. Distinctively Australian and even though it's a flower it sounds tough. Colours there naturally lend themselves to a rendition of the current jumper.

Devils is boring.

I used to feel the same because it's the obvious option, but really it's a great name imo, and Tassie Devils are awesome and unique animals.

It’s not that people are boring, it’s that people want a name they can identify with by representing the uniqueness of their community and its heritage. Love it or hate it, there’s not a nickname out there that can do this more effectively than the Devils.

The Waratah is the floral emblem of NSW.
Tassie deserve to have a moniker that represents them and the Devils is the best one.
