The off-season shake-up in the coach’s box will provide Cats players with plenty of fresh voices given the off-field stability they have had in recent years, and Lloyd said despite the departures of Knights, Enright and Scarlett, there would be some experience alongside Scott next year. “We have a number of strong candidates across the competition who have expressed their interest,” he said. “We are looking structurally at what we have and the talent we have in coaching internally, but we are also looking at a multitude of coaches externally and talking to a lot of different people. “We are just logically working through the process and that will take care of itself over the coming weeks. So whilst we have lost some experience we will have some high quality coaches coming into our football program for 2022 and beyond.”⁸

It's hard to know what those areas are. The talk is he's been offered a 4-5 year deal to head up development. If that's what his responsibility has been so far then I'd say he's done a good job with not a lot to work with, given the relative lack of youth we've brought in.

Sanderson when he was a youngster at Coll - he lived with Buckley

So when he got the bullet at the Crows - he of course ends up an assistant coach at Coll

Lappin is saved because he is an ex team mate of Scott - he has had a long time at Geel - time to move on

Hinkleys 1st few years at Port - Shaun Rehn got basically sacked as an assistant coach - but Garry Hocking was retained

Great to retain someone like Nigel I feel. Got lots of time for his type - quiet achievers. Seems suited to a development role. And keeping at least one of our long term assistants at the club with others leaving should be a good thing.

I only really know him from a webex meeting, pre-finals, we had at work, and he was a guest speaker for sponsorship commitment reasons. He spoke well and gave some good insights into how they were adapting to the covid environment. Spoke a lot about how there were going to be no excuses or complaints about what they had to do, cause they were privileged to be able to continue playing during lockdowns etc.

No idea about how good at his job he is though. But he seemed like an excellent communicator.

Vossy was asked about whether Lappin was on his short-list for assistants at Carlton. He went with: "No he's not. Not currently. I mean I don't want to speak on Nigel's behalf. He can do that well and truly. But as far as I'm aware he's not." Soooo, to summarise: No. I mean maybe one day? It's up to him. Tbh I don't really know.

Maybe he agreed with Scott’s thoughts on the list - which were backed by Hocking too?

Hocking is their boss, very experienced, loyal to geelong, coming back after being away - he’d certainly have well thought out ideas on how we should go forward.

My point is that maybe we stop just using personal bias when deciding who should be at the club as coaches. Clearly, Hocking has decided that these current guys are the ones - for the time being - who should be there.
