I listened to Nigel Smart on 5aa today. He practically started of his interview by saying he is really looking forward to seeing Trent Hentschel make his AFL debut as he is a special player. Later on he was asked about Hentschel in more details and Nige answered along the lines of:

Well he is a 6'2 forward who is just a natural footballer. He moves extremely well for a bulky key position player. He can take a great mark and gets plenty of the ball. he has been kicking a lot of goals and behinds:) in SANFL which means he has been getting his hands on the footy. He is one of those rare players and I think he will be special for our footy club.

Hope Nigel is a good judge of young talent. Seriusly, I am really looking forward to Hentschel making his debut.

For those that haven't heard, Mark stevens has passed his fitness test and will definetly play on Sunday. According to Nigel he is not 100% but he is fit enough to play.

IMHO because Stevo is not 100% he should be played out of FF or FP. Play Roo at CHF and rotate Stevo and Hentschel.

Adelaide has confirmed Trent Hentschel will make his AFL debut on Sunday by leaving him in its reduced squad of 22 to play Sydney at the SCG.

Daniel Schell, Kris Massie and Ben Rutten have been omitted from the squad of 25 named on Thursday night.

Schell will travel to Sydney as the emergency player. His SANFL club, Central District, has the bye this weekend.

Massie is playing for Norwood against North Adelaide at Norwood Oval on Friday night and Rutten will play for West Adelaide against Woodville-West Torrens at Woodville Oval on Saturday.

Tall forward Hentschel, 20, has been in good form for Woodville-West Torrens, the SANFL’s Eagles. He has kicked 14 goals – 7.2, 4.5 and 3.3 – in the three matches so far this season.

Adelaide communications manager Phil Harper, a former Woodville-West Torrens general manager, described Hentschel as “a smart player, a clean ball handler and very aware of what’s around him – a bit like John Klug (a former Woodville and Crows centre half-forward).”

Harper said Hentschel had kicked seven goals for Palmerston Magpies in a Darwin grand final when he was only 16.

Adelaide picked Hentschel in the 2002 pre-season draft but a broken ankle – in a pre-season trial for the Crows against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval – and a minor back injury delayed his progress.

The three changes to the Crows’ team which lost to St Kilda by eight points at Telstra Dome last Saturday are Hentschel, Andrew Crowell and Matthew Bode (recovered from hamstring soreness) in for Wayne Carey (hamstring soreness), Brett Burton (ankle) and Martin Mattner.

Having never seen Trent Hentschel [got it right this time Stiffy] play i am looking forward to seeing him in action & hope he has a good game, be nice to see his first kick in AFL be a goal,:)

Tonight on Ch 7 news Mark Ricciuto talked up Trent Hentschel a bit. I know he is a genuine exciting talent but he has been talked up a lot by the media this week, especially by bloody channel 10.

I tought Neil Craig was very good at answering a question "What do you expect from Trent in his 1st game?"

Craigy's reply: "We xpect him to perform. Simple as that. Thats why he got into the side in the forst place!"

PS. The closer we get to a game the more I think Hentschel might start.

Good luck to Trent on Sunday. Hope he gets a decent enough run to show what he's made of. If he can really display some of the stuff to show he's gonna be a major player in the forward/attack line (like Stiffy and others mention), should be good and very interesting to see.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Hentschel play against Sydney - he's a very talented forward. Probably being promoted a tad early because of an interrupted pre-season, but he has been in good touch.

Good luck Trent.
